Photographing the snowfall from my studio and our Seaside Cape Cod home.

The view of the snow falling on the wild verbascum outside my studio window.

I'm so happy I painted this room in this haunting blue/green tone

We're very lucky with our views and on a Wintry day , such as this was, it's lovely to take a break from the easel or digital tablet or watercolor paper to peer out over the wild verbascum, which I always leave to dry, as it catches the snowfall. The horizon line blurred from the snowclouds.

I love photography and of course am always filming. I've come to find that when I'm in the mood, tho we've a few choices for camera in the house, that my go to of late is stills from my osmo dji pocket 2. It is a clever little video camera, taking wonderful 4k footage for my videos, but is also a still camera as well.

The horizon line here is again blurred and hanging low and blue grey with the heavy snow-laden clouds. Across the bay, the neighbors houses begin to colour with the white snow. I love the white 'hat' on the Queen Anee's Lace, which I also leave to dry in our garden beds. Also considered a weed to come, but I always encourage them to grown and they dry wonderfully when their white white flower heads curl up. They are like a lady in a Winter hat or an 18th c courtesan in her powdered wig.

Speaking of ladies in wigs, my little terra cotta statue in this border ( a bit worse for ware as she should have been brought in many seasons ago) looks bemused with her cheeks 'pickening' in the cold whilst her wig of snow adds to her beauty.

Sometimes I love the photos I can get from my video footage, such as this. Had I used the camera settings only I'd have brought these berries into focus, but as the camera moved it focused on the distant berries and the blur of red in the foreground, to me, gives a painterly look. I suppose being a painter I can't help but appreciate a 'blur' in a photo and see it as 'brush strokes. These berries always look dazzling in the snow.

I love pine and we are lucky with a few variety here, mainly planted by my hubby's grandmother. The brilliance of the green glows in stark contrast to the now blue cool sea. Though it often wears greens itself, the bay, with the snow it cools it's tone and makes an amazing backdrop to greens and reds of berries and plants.

The old picket fence with the rhododendrons always gives that New England feel and when slowly advancing my footage here, I caught just the corner of the old round window in the far right. It's in the old pool house (now no longer serving it's purpose as the old inground pool has become our burn pile, maybe one day it will be restored)

I just love the warm brown/orange towns of the old fence as it picks up the old cedar shades on the pool house the the fading chipped paint of the old round window looks at the bright stark white of the new fallen snow and wonders at it's crisp color of the past.

And finally the snow at it's heaviest, blurring even more the view across the bay and the tree line being enveloped by the approached snow clouds. The roof of the boathouse in the distance looks much happier in snow, as it belies its need for a new roof under the fresh 'paint' of natures hand.

I rather enjoyed sharing these photos as I often share more my artwork. I am happy and excited this year to share more of my photos as well. I'm always taking film and video and even tho much of my art can be surreal or twee with animals and figures , the color palettes and textures of this place is Always inspiring that work.

I hope you all had a lovely day and found a moment to take a snapshot, even if only in your mind, of a joyful moment of your day.

Your painter's eye definitely influences your photography. This was a wonderful realization as I read your post. The blurred berries as brushstrokes; the distant berries as photography. Beautiful concept. I would explore this theme more deeply...

Thank you for sharing this stellar post.

Cheers!
