Todos somos rescatistas

En algún momento de nuestras vidas, de una forma u otra rescatamos a alguien, y también nos rescataron. ¿De qué? De lo que haya sido, porque algunas veces el rescatar se hará de múltiples maneras, desde apoyar y aportar nuestro grano de arena por una buena causa, hasta que nos ayudarán a superar “un corte de patas” a lo venezolano.
Y en ese abanico de opciones de rescate donde algunas veces ni siquiera conocemos a esa persona, lo rescatamos; habrá de todo; por esa razón, de acuerdo a mi criterio, al final todos somos rescatistas.
Jamás imaginé que, en esta oportunidad, los rescatados íbamos a ser nosotros los venezolanos; las noticias ante el doble terremoto vivido parecen ¡una pesadilla!.
Cómo no llorar ante este panorama. Intenté calmarme y sonreí porque ya el colon me lo reclamó y debo cuidarme. ¿Sabías que sonreír aun en tribulación es una forma de proteger nuestro sistema inmune? Debido a que engañamos al cerebro, le decimos que estamos bien y él lo aceptó y literalmente nos rescató de sufrir alguna enfermedad; necesitamos protegernos. El sonreír traerá cosas positivas aun en momentos de dolor.
Por un momento quise ser como Tsunami, un perro rescatista, un héroe venezolano; vale destacar que él también fue rescatado por su dueño y entrenador Jorge Beens. Y ser como los héroes de las comiquitas. ¿Quién no querrá tener la nariz de Hechizada y sanar esas áreas afectadas y cambiar la tristeza por alegría?, entre otros. Cada persona incluso activó sin saberlo sus superpoderes para rescatar a los más desvalidos.
En Barcelona, Estado Anzoátegui, lugar donde vivo, jamás imaginé que el temblor tan fuerte que sentí estaba haciendo estragos al otro lado de Venezuela. Acababa de mirar la hora de ese fatídico día, el 24 de junio; el celular marcó las 5:50 p. m. Esa tarde sentí ganas de comer pastelitos; no sabía que vendrían aderezados de dolor. Segundos después, tembló más fuerte y vi que la mecedora se mecía sola.
¡Wuao, me quedé inmóvil! Quise salir corriendo literalmente, pero mantuve la calma. Tenía tiempo sin sentir un temblor. Recé el Padrenuestro.
At some point in our lives, in one way or another, we’ve rescued someone, and we’ve also been rescued. From what? Whatever it may have been, because sometimes rescue comes in many forms—from supporting a good cause and doing our part, to having someone help us get through a rough patch, as we say in Venezuela.
And within that range of rescue options—where sometimes we don’t even know the person we’re rescuing—there’s a whole spectrum of situations; for that reason, in my opinion, in the end we’re all rescuers.
I never imagined that, this time, we Venezuelans would be the ones being rescued; the news about the double earthquake we’ve experienced seems like a nightmare!
How can we not cry in the face of this situation? I tried to calm down and smiled because my colon was already giving me trouble, and I need to take care of myself. Did you know that smiling even in times of trouble is a way to protect our immune system? Because we trick the brain—we tell it we’re okay—and it accepts that and literally rescues us from getting sick; we need to protect ourselves. Smiling will bring positive things even in times of pain.
For a moment, I wanted to be like Tsunami, a rescue dog, a Venezuelan hero; it’s worth noting that he, too, was rescued by his owner and trainer, Jorge Beens. And to be like the heroes in comic books. Who wouldn’t want to have Hechizada’s nose and heal those affected areas and turn sadness into joy, among other things? Each person even unwittingly activated their superpowers to rescue the most vulnerable.
What I Experienced
In Barcelona, Anzoátegui State—where I live—I never imagined that the strong tremor I felt was wreaking havoc on the other side of Venezuela. I had just checked the time on that fateful day, June 24; my cell phone read 5:50 p.m. That afternoon, I felt like eating some pastries; I didn’t know they’d come with a side of pain. Seconds later, the shaking got stronger, and I saw the rocking chair swaying on its own.
Wow, I froze in place! I literally wanted to run out, but I kept my cool. It had been a while since I’d felt an earthquake. I prayed the Lord’s Prayer.
Gracias a las redes sociales fue posible tener la información al momento. Dos terremotos, “doblete sísmico”, parecía irreal de tal magnitud que, según los expertos, es inusual, uno seguido por el otro de 7,2 a 7,5 en cuestión de segundos; estos impactaron a La Guaira (anterior Estado Vargas) y parte de Caracas, un caos total.
Venezuela, por su ubicación geográfica, es vulnerable a movimientos telúricos como temblores y terremotos debido a que geológicamente se encuentra en el límite de contacto entre la Placa del Caribe y la Placa Suramericana.

Nuestro pueblo demostró una vez más de lo que está hecho, a veces sin las herramientas necesarias; sus manos cavaron los escombros para rescatar a la gente. Son nuestros superhéroes; se pusieron la capa de rescatista, entre estos el señor Wilmer Antonio Cruz, conocido cariñosamente como “el topo de La Guaira”. Una mención especial por su labor encomiable.
Los terremotos no le pudieron arrebatar la solidaridad, la empatía, las ganas de ayudar que lleva tatuadas en su piel. Qué orgullosa estoy. Nuestra gente es hermosa y, con el eslogan "quítate tú para ponerme yo", es una de las tantas formas de decirle a alguien: “Te entiendo, estoy contigo”.
Y ni que decir del bello Tsunami que logro rescatar a muchas personas y darle una oportunidad de vivir.
Rescatistas habrá de todo tipo, del alma, del cuerpo y del espíritu, porque cada venezolano pondrá el corazón, las manos, el ímpetu, su valentía; lo guiará lo guerrero de nuestros ancestros y lo dará todo por salvar a quien fuera.
Mientras tanto, otros rescatistas dentro o fuera de nuestras fronteras trabajarán dando apoyo en la logística de repartir y organizar los insumos y provisiones, o con oraciones, abrazos, palabras de aliento; otros tantos ofrecerán gratis un café o un té, comidas, vestimenta; otros más abrazarán y limpiarán las lágrimas a cada corazón atribulado o darán un like y un comentario de apoyo a ese que, contra viento y marea, está arriesgando su vida para informar, entre otros.

Thanks to social media, we were able to get the information right away. Two earthquakes—a “seismic double”—seemed so unreal given their magnitude that, according to experts, it is unusual for one to follow another so quickly, with magnitudes ranging from 7.2 to 7.5 in a matter of seconds; these struck La Guaira (formerly Vargas State) and part of Caracas, causing total chaos.
Due to its geographic location, Venezuela is vulnerable to seismic activity such as tremors and earthquakes because, geologically speaking, it lies at the boundary between the Caribbean Plate and the South American Plate.

Venezuelan rescue workers: heroes on four legs and two legs
Our people proved once again what they’re made of, sometimes without the necessary tools; they dug through the rubble with their bare hands to rescue people. They are our superheroes; they donned the rescuer’s cape, among them Mr. Wilmer Antonio Cruz, affectionately known as “the mole of La Guaira”. A special mention for his commendable work.
The earthquakes couldn’t take away the solidarity, empathy, and desire to help that are tattooed on his skin. I’m so proud. Our people are beautiful, and the slogan “step aside so I can step in” is one of the many ways to tell someone, “I understand you; I’m with you.”
And needless to say, the magnificent Tsunami managed to rescue many people and give them a chance at life.
Rescuers will come in all forms—of the soul, the body, and the spirit—because every Venezuelan will put their heart, their hands, their drive, and their courage into the effort; they will be guided by the warrior spirit of our ancestors and will give their all to save anyone in need.
Meanwhile, other rescuers, both within and beyond our borders, will work to provide logistical support in distributing and organizing supplies and provisions, or through prayers, hugs, and words of encouragement; still others will offer free coffee or tea, meals, and clothing; still others will embrace and wipe away the tears of every troubled heart or give a “like” and a supportive comment to those who, against all odds, are risking their lives to report the news, among other things.

Llegaron los rescatistas de países hermanos héroes de dos y cuatro patas, aviones con ayuda humanitaria. Empatizaron con nuestro dolor. Sin duda alguna sin estos no hubiese sido posible recuperar tantas personas con vida. Los venezolanos somos especialistas en hacer sentir bien al otro que vino a solidarizarse con nuestra causa.
Los atendemos y daremos lo mejor de nosotros, y eso atraerá cosas positivas; la buena vibra se hará presente. Por eso es que hemos recibido tanta ayuda; el universo nos está premiando. Y eso fue parte del legado dejado por nuestros ancestros. No en vano fuimos el país que años atrás dio cobijo a tantos inmigrantes y aquí recuperaron la esperanza de tener un futuro mejor y cada venezolano le dio lo que tuvo en ese momento.
Y es por esta razón que muchos inmigrantes decidieron quedarse, aun después de que sus países mejoraron su economía. Las lágrimas de los rescatistas se colarán por entre las grietas y los escombros; para llevar un mensaje de paz, tranquilidad, sosiego al que se encontrará del otro lado.
Aunque suene paradójico, hay un lado positivo: unió a través del dolor a un pueblo. La reacción del ser humano para dar apoyo a como diera lugar para rescatar a sus familiares, amigos y también al desconocido. En un país fracturado por problemas políticos, sociales y económicos, lastimosamente tuvo que ocurrir esto para dejar de lado cualquier diferencia. ¡Que noble nuestra gente!
En la vida siempre habrá situaciones que el ser humano no podrá controlar y serán cíclicas, y solo Dios, a través de la madre tierra, sabrá el porqué de las cosas y su tiempo es perfecto; y aun en tribulaciones en él confío.
En Venezuela, estamos de luto y es que existe el interrogante de si el familiar o un amigo, o el primo del amigo, o su suegra, o la niña que estudia con la sobrina sobrevivió. Ese ha sido el tema diario. Todos por igual dolieron y lo sentimos como nuestro.
Rescue workers from other countries, heroes on four legs and two legs
Rescue workers from neighboring countries—heroes on two and four legs—and planes carrying humanitarian aid arrived. They empathized with our pain. Without a doubt, without them it would not have been possible to rescue so many people alive. We Venezuelans are experts at making others feel welcome when they come to show solidarity with our cause.
We take care of them and give our very best, and that attracts positive things; good vibes will be present. That is why we have received so much help; the universe is rewarding us. And that was part of the legacy left by our ancestors. It is no coincidence that we were the country that, years ago, gave shelter to so many immigrants—here they regained hope for a better future, and every Venezuelan gave them whatever they had at the time.
And that is why many immigrants decided to stay, even after their home countries’ economies improved. The tears of the rescue workers will seep through the cracks and rubble to carry a message of peace, tranquility, and serenity to those who await them on the other side.
The Silver Lining of the Earthquake
Although it may sound paradoxical, there is a silver lining: it united a people through their pain. People reacted by offering support in any way they could to rescue their family members, friends, and even strangers. In a country fractured by political, social, and economic problems, unfortunately, this had to happen for people to set aside their differences. How noble our people are!
In life, there will always be situations beyond human control, and they will recur; only God, through Mother Earth, knows the reason behind things, and His timing is perfect; and even in times of tribulation, I trust in Him.
In Venezuela, we are in mourning, and the question remains: Did a family member, a friend, a friend’s cousin, a mother-in-law, or the girl who goes to school with a niece survive? That has been the daily concern. Everyone grieved equally, and we felt it as if it were our own loss.

Gente bella de #Empowertalent, qué alegría escuchar cuando cada rescatista superaba cada obstáculo para cumplir con lo que dictaba su corazón. De mirar a Fabiana, una niña con su carita sonriente, quien estuvo bajo los escombros por horas y pareció más bien que venía de una fiesta, y a otra niña que les insistió a los bomberos que buscaran a Guzmán, su tortuga, porque es su familia.
Conocer las historias de los rescates milagrosos va sanando mi corazón, que, como el de la gran mayoría, está fracturado. Seguiré confiando en la humanidad porque los buenos somos más. La fe y oraciones transformaron lo imposible en posible.
Muchos perdieron sus bienes que, aunque materiales, son parte de su identidad, de su vida, y es duro, pero únicamente la fe mueve montañas. Ayudemos al desvalido, cultivemos la solidaridad sobre todo en los más pequeños del hogar.
Cuando deslicé las manos en el teclado para desahogarme y dar sosiego a mi corazón, aún seguían rescatando personas y mascotas, y esta será la última labor de Tsunami como rescatista, un héroe de dos patas. Él también fue rescatado; al final nos rescatamos unos a otros, todos somos rescatistas.

Gracias, amigos rescatistas, por su loable labor; ustedes lo dejaron todo por nuestra causa. Con cada rescate, están salvando poco a poco un corazón atribulado y representa una oportunidad de vida.
Salir de este duelo no será fácil. Y cada quien deberá darse su tiempo. Somos un pueblo resiliente con ímpetu y con la guía de nuestros ancestros, y con el trabajo en equipo lo lograremos. Ante este dolor no temamos porque Dios está con nosotros y saldremos de esto. Renaceremos como el ave fénix porque lo merecemos y será necesario para conseguir la paz en cuerpo, alma y espíritu.
Le pido a Dios el rescate de cada alma, porque tal vez aún no saben que fallecieron. Que siempre brille para la luz perpetua, QEPD. Y sosiego en el corazón de cada familia afectada.
Y nunca olvidarnos que, en medio de la tempestad, siempre brillará la luz de la esperanza.
Wonderful people at #Empowertalent, what a joy it was to hear how each rescuer overcame every obstacle to follow their heart’s calling. From watching Fabiana, a little girl with a smiling face who was trapped under the rubble for hours and looked more like she’d just come from a party, to another little girl who insisted that the firefighters look for Guzmán, her turtle, because he’s her family.
Hearing the stories of these miraculous rescues is healing my heart, which, like that of the vast majority, is broken. I’ll keep trusting in humanity because there are more of us good people. Faith and prayers turned the impossible into the possible.
Many lost their possessions, which, though material, are part of their identity and their lives, and it’s hard, but only faith moves mountains. Let’s help the vulnerable and cultivate solidarity, especially among the youngest members of the household.
As I let my hands glide across the keyboard to vent my feelings and soothe my heart, they were still rescuing people and pets, and this will be Tsunami’s final mission as a rescuer—a two-legged hero. He, too, was rescued; in the end, we rescue one another—we’re all rescuers.

Coming to terms with this grief will not be easy. And each of us must take the time we need. We are a resilient people with drive and the guidance of our ancestors, and through teamwork, we will succeed. In the face of this pain, let us not fear, for God is with us, and we will come through this. We will rise again like the phoenix because we deserve it, and it will be necessary to achieve peace in body, soul, and spirit.
I ask God for the salvation of every soul, because perhaps they do not yet know that they have passed away. May they always shine in the eternal light; may they rest in peace. And may there be peace in the hearts of every affected family.
And let us never forget that, in the midst of the storm, the light of hope will always shine.

Así es hermana, gracias por tu lindo aporte, lo valoro.
Algunas veces en cosas que parecen sencillas y sin importancia, pero cada rescate por muy insignificante que parezca es de suma importancia para el ser humano.
Al rescatar una planta que se estaba muriendo, un animalito, presentar el examen de un amigo que no estudio, regalar un pan, y así infinidad de tantas cosas. Vivimos rescatando sin darnos cuenta y eso es hermoso.
