La satisfaccion de un trabajo bien hecho | The satisfaction of a job well done (ESP/ENG)

Hace 2 días recibí una llamada telefónica al móvil de mi esposa, resulta que un amigo se lo dio a este señor, el cual necesitaba una asesoría con un dispositivo en su local de trabajo, mi esposa me pasa la llamada y converso un poco con este posible cliente, luego de una explicación nada entendible, le dije que me pasara la dirección de su oficina y yo me acercaría hasta allí, así lo hizo.

Two days ago I received a phone call to my wife's cell phone, it turns out that a friend gave it to this gentleman, who needed advice with a device at his place of work, my wife passed me the call and I talked a little with this potential client, after a not very understandable explanation, I told him to pass me the address of his office and I would go there, so he did.

Al día siguiente tome mis llaves y me dirigí al lugar, unos cuantos kilómetros lejos de casa, al llegar al sitio, me di cuenta de que era un expendio de licores, ya tenía idea de que trataba el problema, al llegar un señor muy educado y atento me dice que pase a la oficina, al entrar me dice que tiene más de una semana con un problema en su sistema CCTV, que habían ido varios técnicos y ninguno le había solucionado, el problema era simple, no grababa el DVR, el primer técnico le dijo que el Disco Duro estaba dañado, que debía comprar otro, sin dudarlo el compro otro disco y el problema persistió, luego llamo a otro, este sin mediar palabras con una simple mirada le dijo que ya el DVR no servía, me cuenta el señor.

The next day I took my keys and went to the place, a few miles away from home, when I arrived at the site, I realized it was a liquor store, I already had an idea of what the problem was, when I arrived a very polite and attentive gentleman told me to go to the office, when I entered he told me that he has more than a week with a problem in his CCTV system, The problem was simple, the first technician told him that the hard disk was damaged, he had to buy another one, without hesitation he bought another disk and the problem persisted, then he called another one, he told him with a simple look that the DVR was no longer working, the gentleman told me.

Luego de escuchar toda su relato, me puse manos a la obra, efectivamente el equipo no reconocía el disco, luego de mirar por unos segundos todo parecía bien, sin fallas aparentes, todos los componentes en buen estado, pero como no me gusta dar diagnósticos a simple vista sin antes hacer las pruebas, le comente al señor, siendo directo en mis palabras le dije, no puedo decir que tiene su equipo sin antes revisarlo a fondo, para eso necesito llevármelo y aunque no lo vi convencido, él me expreso que mi amigo le había dado muy buenas referencias sobre mí y me dijo: Llévatelo.

After listening to all his story, I got down to work, indeed the team did not recognize the disc, after looking for a few seconds everything seemed fine, no apparent faults, all components in good condition, but as I do not like to give diagnoses at a glance without first doing the tests, I commented to the man, being direct in my words I said, I can not say you have your team without first check it thoroughly, for that I need to take it and although I did not see him convinced, he told me that my friend had given him very good references about me and told me: Take it away.

Luego de una hora de camino llegue a casa y decidí verificar bien que sucedía, lo conecte en un pequeño monitor que tengo para pruebas, le coloque su alimentador y lo encendí, pero antes lo desarme para poder tener a mano la tarjeta y hacer mis mediciones, por mi experiencia previa, ya tenía idea de por donde venía el asunto, primero medí el voltaje de la fuente de alimentación y estaba correcto, luego medí la alimentación del Disco Duro y me daba los valores correctos también, pero nada de lectura del disco en el DVR, me dispuse a realizar la siguiente prueba, no podía creer que dos discos estuviesen con la misma falla y más si uno de ellos era nuevo, los coloque ambos en mi computador, encendí y como lo pensé, ambos discos eran reconocidos perfectamente, aunque sin formato, usando la herramienta de Windows los formatee y utilice CrystalDisk para verificar su óptimo desempeño, ambos discos con temperaturas excelentes.

After an hour's drive I arrived home and decided to check what was happening, I connected it to a small monitor that I have for testing, I put the power supply and turned it on, but first I disassembled it to have the card at hand and make my measurements, for my previous experience, I had an idea of where the matter was coming from, first I measured the voltage of the power supply and it was correct, then I measured the power supply of the hard disk and it gave me the correct values too, I could not believe that two disks were with the same failure and more if one of them was new, I put them both in my computer, I turned on and as I thought, both disks were recognized perfectly, although without format, using the Windows tool I formatted them and used CrystalDisk to verify its optimal performance, both disks with excellent temperatures.

Luego de meditar un poco decidí hacer la prueba con una fuente de poder de una computadora que tenía a la mano, solo fue cuestión de conectarla, utilizar una salida de 12 V y hacer un puente entre 2 pines del conector de 24 pines, para que encendiera, conecte el DVR y tras un minuto al encender, esta vez aparecía el disco duro y me decía que debía formatear, efectivamente, como pensé, la fuente de alimentación del equipo estaba defectuosa y aun cuando me mostraba en el multímetro los 12 voltios necesarios, sabía que el amperaje estaba por debajo de lo que necesitaba, luego de buscar en mis trastes me encontré varias fuentes de alimentación de 12 voltios, por lo general estos equipos utilizas 12 V a 1 A, pero decidí tomar uno que tenía con un poco más de amperaje, exactamente 1.25, le coloque un conector al cable, luego de aislar me dispuse a conectar el DVR y efectivamente mi sospecha era cierta, todo estaba funcionando excelente, arme el equipo, y luego llame al cliente.

After meditating a little I decided to test with a power supply from a computer I had on hand, it was just a matter of connecting it, use a 12 V output and make a bridge between 2 pins of the 24 pin connector, to turn it on, connect the DVR and after a minute to turn on, this time the hard disk appeared and told me that I should format, indeed, as I thought, the power supply of the equipment was defective and even when it showed me in the multimeter the 12 volts needed, I knew that the amperage was below what I needed, after searching in my frets I found several 12 volt power supplies, usually these equipments use 12 V at 1 A, but I decided to take one that I had with a little more amperage, exactly 1. 25, I put a connector to the cable, after isolating I decided to connect the DVR and indeed my suspicion was true, everything was working excellent, I assembled the equipment, and then call the customer.

Pasadas unas horas fui a entregar el trabajo completado, al llegar le comento al señor que ambos discos estaban buenos y le cuento cuál era el problema, me comento que estas personas que habían ido anteriormente solo le habían cobrado la revisión sin darle una solución y yo en cuestión de unas horas le había resuelto el problema, le emití la factura, esta que no dudo en cancelar de inmediato con una sonrisa en su rostro de satisfacción y al mismo tiempo comentándome que necesitaba hacer varias reparaciones de otros equipos en su casa.

After a few hours I went to deliver the completed work, upon arrival I told the gentleman that both disks were good and told him what the problem was, he told me that these people who had gone before had only charged him for the review without giving a solution and I in a matter of hours had solved the problem, I issued the invoice, which did not hesitate to cancel immediately with a smile on his face of satisfaction and at the same time commenting that he needed to make several repairs of other equipment in your home.

Me sentí complacido, no solo de haber solventado el problema de este señor, sino de haber ganado un cliente nuevo, un problema sencillo con una reparación simple, un poco de análisis y todo resuelto.

I was pleased, not only to have solved this gentleman's problem, but to have gained a new customer, a simple problem with a simple repair, a little analysis and everything solved.
