Solar Eclipse! August 12th 2026 6PM BST
Everybody all set for the Solar Eclipse!?
Belfast is looking at a 93% partial solar eclipse if Gemini is to be believed, so we aren't gonna get the full enchilada but I'll take it 😎
The eclipse is supposed to start 6.10PM BST and reach it's peak at 7.08PM BST.
Yes those are very accurate number but again it's what Gemini thinks so hopefully all good.
Eclipse Shades
Rumor has it these are sold out all over the place, but i've heard a few mad stories of people sourcing glasses from Deliveroo or Uber Eats lolz.
If you're desperate to watch, worried about your eyes and haven't got the shades theres a glimmer of hope (see what I did there 😂). Queens University Belfast is hosting an event out the front of the Lanyon building in the open square, and the great news is they will be handing out free solar shades!
Thats right, you heard me, free solar eclipse sunglasses, so if your in that neck of the woods at the right time get yourself along to see something.
Might as well first visible solar eclipse from mainland since 1999, and that was a while ago!
UPDATE
A friend in the Belfast area was lucky enough to grab a quick shot between the clouds. For your viewing pleasure, enjoy. Looks a bit spooky!

Might have to end up using some imagination lolz 😆
I think there were events in various places as someone at work was heading to Cambridge to see it. One day I'd like to see a total eclipse as that is something special.
Won't have to wait long, Egypt looks like the place to be for the next one, August 2nd '27. Calendar marked! Over 6 minutes totality near Luxor, could be too much to handle!? lolz
I'm not sure I'll get to Egypt, but that could be an epic place for it.
Normal sunset at Luxor Temple looks nuts, solar eclipse on top might be too good to miss, dig deep get it booked! lolz
