An Overnight Trip on the Motorcycle!

(Edited)

I'm learning the basics of video editing, how to tie clips together and cut them down, how to add music (next time I'll have a library downloaded, the choices inside the app were pretty bad haha!)

And I wanted to see if it was possible to do it on my phone rather than laptop...and the short answer is yes. I used Youcut and I know with a lot more playing around I could fill in narration, throw in text boxes, work out sound equalizing etc.

However it is far more clunky and time consuming than on a computer. What should be more convenient simply is not. At least not with my Google pixel 4, maybe if I upgrade which could happen this winter.

Most importantly in future I want to tell a story with my video that doesn't just go "And then, And then, And then this happened" which is the fastest way to lose someone's interest. No, a story needs a rhythm of "this, therefore this...but this happened, therefore this.."

For example our initial intention of the trip was simply to ride somewhere within a couple hours of home that we hadn't been to before, find a cool view and grab a hotel; but when we looked up the town of Naples- while we were already on the road- we discovered it had several hiking trails.

And we chose the most difficult one- unintentionally hah- but our time in the woods made us wish for camping & prompted us to find a cabin through Airbnb instead, and wow was that ever the better decision!

I can't stress enough how awesome this little place was. Super cute with bunk beds, a coffee maker, a pile of wood for the fire, plenty of coffee, and a gift bag with stuff for smores- it's the little touches :)

And most importantly, extremely private, surrounded by nature instead of people!

Our saddle bags in combination with a nearby dollar general made it possible to grab some dawgs and charcoal for the grill- if someone had told me I would be camping and barbecuing in November, I would have envisioned a trip to the south- unbelievably beautiful weather we're having in NY!

Record breaking temperatures for this time of year in fact :0)

To have a more complete story of the trip, definitely have a peek at the above video, but essentially we went on several joy rides around two different lakes, this one is Canandaigua-

I am in love with shadows, and this was a perfect day for them!

I forgot Howie had a clip of me on my arse in the leaves, so it didn't make it into the vid, but here you go XD

Those leaves were deep and almost as slippery as dealing with mud!

Hope you're weekend was as fantastic as mine :) Remember to Make it a Great Day!

Looks like a great trip! I've driven by the redwood many many times but never stopped in there. Maybe I will now.

I can't vouch for anything other than breakfast, but the omelet was perfect and the hash browns definitely weren't the frozen kind :)

What a nice getaway! The cabin looks like it was in the perfect spot. We were hoping to get up to the Northshore of Lake Superior before the snow flies but, alas, we're quickly running out of time. There's a sweet spot between the end of October and whenever we get enough snow to snowmobile where you can find open Airbnb reservations. Otherwise you have to book nearly six months in advance.

It really was in a great spot! And it's giving us some ideas, we've spent the past two nights talking about buying land and creating something similar, but with visions of fruit trees, grapevines and berry bushes surrounding it :) We've always said we want to "retire" to a cabin surrounded by woods, and we're always thinking of different ways to create a passive income stream. So why not have our own cabin and build a half dozen more for others to enjoy? I feel a bit of excitement growing with this idea!

I hope you get a chance to do that- the two saving graces of winter (aside from Christmas) snowmobiling and downhill skiing:)

That sounds heavenly. That's close to my dream too. Buy some acreage, design/build a totally off-the-grid complex, and welcome visitors. Once I get too old to travel or lose interest what better thing than to have the world come to us! : )

I could go on and on about this, haha- not sure if you know where I live, but we're in Ovid right along the Fingerlakes wine trail, parallel to Seneca Lake. Our current property is too small for what I'm talking about, but if we can find something in Lodi or Hector, or even Trumansburg or Burdett, we would be extremely close to a huge touristy area.

And the best part? I have a brother in law who lives in the attached cottage to our house, who we've worked through severe social anxiety over the years and got him to the point where he would absolutely be able to maintain the property and cabins for a salary if we wanted to take off for a week or two once we had everything running smoothly.

He works for us as our "foreman" with both the beekeeping business and our winter wholesale grapevine business. Though it appears on the outside we've done him great favors, we really would have a difficult time with help without his constant presence. And he would make it possible for us to not be married to this. He would love having his own cabin and a purpose, since this might be our last year of doing grapes. So my dreams of travel And settling in a cabin are absolutely within reach :)

It sounds like you have a great plan and all the more awesome that you've been able to include your brother-in-law in the dream. It sounds like a really fun life!

Aw thanks. Of course I'm getting ahead of myself, there are some steps in between. Realistically it will probably be a couple years before we can really start anything, but certainly can start shaping the plan :)
