Another Day, Another Burlesque!

Afterparties are always great. Afterparties with attractive women are always better.

I've posted pictures of various burlesque shows before, so scroll through my blog if you're curious for more. This time I was playing with a new lens, a 50 mm. On a crop sensor it acts more like a 75 mm, so I didn't use that lens for these. Wayyyy too zoomed in. So these were taken using my kit lens.

Unfortunately the lighting at this show was not the best. But with a little bit of editing I kinda like the effects I was able to get.

I've been listening to a photography podcast lately so I've been playing with settings. The host swears that grainy is better than blurry. So this series is a battle between ISO and shutter speed. Honestly I like blur more than grain. But again, I like the painterly quality of the edits.

Dunno if these should be NSFW or not. But hey. If you don't want to see it, just keep on scrolling.

Perhaps soon I'll post more that I did take with the nifty fifty lens. As always stay tuned!

No opportunity to use off camera lighting or a flash?

No, they don't allow flash photography because it's distracting to the performers. Usually they have spotlights.

This was taken in another show in a much darker room with a zoom lens but with spotlighting:

I think part of my problem now is that I understand lighting and settings better, so it's driving me nuts when I can't seem to get it right!

That’s a shame! They could throw a single fill light at the ceiling, or a strong directional light and it would probably make the performance better for all observers present!

It definitely would. Hotel conference room lighting is garbage lol

Oh indeed it is, I've had to shoot in those environments so many times. Usually I ensure flash is allowed so that the client get the best possible outcomes! Even if it is only for the first few "songs", like a concert.

Wow, these look like shit on a computer screen. It's amazing the difference between a phone and a big screen. Guess I'll have to learn how to edit with Krita or GIMP.... 😳
