"Document 13" A Dystopian Tale: Part 16

The year is 2074, the world has been plunged into darkness. One girl, Sarah Doe, will learn the secrets of the dark forces that run the ruined world. With the help of a few friends, her family, and her own powers she will fight to return the world to an order not known since well before her birth. Will she succeed? Read to find out!

Scene:
Three months later. In Dr. Bureau’s lab. There are now nine beds crammed into the room with a girl in each one. They are all attached to cables and IVs. Dr. Bureau is standing by a computer entering in data. Headmistress Matthews is waiting impatiently next to him.

HM: You summoned me here, you better have some results.

Dr: Just wait, I have to get the dosage right.

He clicks on a machine next to one of the beds and a liquid enters her iv.

Dr: I’m administering a dose of pancuronium bromide to stop her lungs and heart. She should die within a few minutes. Then we will see if she revives like Sarah did.

HM: You’ve been successful?

Dr: With Sarah. She revived after two minutes. I’m not sure if the transfer was successful with this subject.

Within minutes the girl on the bed begins to convulse and foam from her mouth. The doctor smiles.

Dr: It seems to be working!

She convulses for a few more seconds and then stops. Dr. Bureau checks her vitals.

Dr: She is dead. Now wait.

They wait for two minutes. Dr. Bureau checks her vitals again.

Dr: Dammit.

HM: You brought me here to watch you kill a girl?

Dr: You gotta crack a few eggs to make an omelet?

HM: I want results! I don’t want to see you again until this is straightened out!

Dr: I just need to make a few adjustments…

HM: I don’t need your excuses! I need my immortality! Don’t call me until you get at least one girl to wake up!

She storms out of the lab.

Dr. Bureau calmly disconnects the girl from the iv and wires and covers her body with a sheet.

Dr: Back to square one….
