How to Roll into Sunday

What thing of beauty, in my midst? Alas, her heart is merely a reflection of a beautiful soul. I can never argue the charm of nature, she has a way about her. Breathe her in and she becomes a part of your soul.

Sunday, Sunday, feels so good. The day of rest, almost. You know how life gets, way too busy for my own good, by my own doing. :)) I am determined to learn to "just say no."

It has been decidedly hot all weekend, and although I personally can cool off, in a number of different ways, the plants cannot, and neither can most of the animals. At 94F/34C, the horses were warm and it called for a cool hose down, maybe even a bath. It's a great day to spend with my girls at the barn.

Eye see you! His hair had been braided yesterday after he was hosed down. It is his own hair that is wrapped around to hold it instead of bands. That way, it will fall out on its own, probably while he is sleeping. Henry is such a man and spoiled accordingly. I know it is three days in a row, but, Monday, they are calling for a reprieve and cooler temperatures. I believe it will only be 75F/24C, so that will be a perfectly lovely day. Low humidity? Score! What is your perfect temperature, one that is not too cold, not too hot, but, just right?

Today is a #BeautifulSunday by @Ace108, where we share our day in the most possibly beautiful way that we can. It is always a great day when I can spend it with some or all of the family. Today is a great day for some water fun. I am having the best of days, a definite #SublimeSunday in the making, by the Meister of my morning, @c0ff33a. I do love my @c0ff33 and he likes eclectic! A definite match, made in heaven. I want to thank @ace108 and @c0ff33a for hosting these fun challenges! Check them out!

One of the girls had sort of adopted the grey feral kitty. We call him Grey and he has been around for about two years. Some days he leaves us for a short period of time and comes back tattered. Look at his right ear. Tattered and torn. I had him fixed hoping it would mend his wandering ways, but, he is still an alley cat. What can I say?

20220521_155102 a.jpg

He followed us in the barn and got up on his tippy toes to reach the water in the freshly filled up bucket, He likes his reflection and sits there and watches it for a few minutes. It startled him at first, it always does. It is like he is on alert for another cat/dog/anything. I wonder what is going through his head when he sees a reflection of himself? Does his inside voice sing? You're beautiful! You're beautiful! I'm curious.

bath 1.jpg

Did I mention that Henry likes baths? He is actually from Chincoteague Island off the coast of Eastern Virginia, where they roam wild and free. We bought him at auction a few years back, and it has been fun to watch this little guy grow from a few months old to where he is now. They hold the auctions to help control the size of the herd. If left unchecked, it would get too large for the island to sustain them. About 60 or more foals are born every year, and only a select few with dominant traits of their heritage are kept there on the island. I know that we feel lucky for having won the bid on him and most people that get one feel the same. Some people try for years to get one, you never know unless you go. It just might be your year!

Everyone gets wet when he takes a bath. Know that upfront and it won't bother you so much. So here is the fair warning if you come with me when I am hosing him down. Stand back, he shakes it off like a dog does when he is wet. While he enjoys a nice spray down when it is hot out there, I would have to say that for most horses, it is all about the roll after the wash/hose down. If he can make dust fly while he is at it, even better! They do it for the sheer pleasure, or honest to God... it is a way of grooming. I am sure there are lots of reasons, but, for him, those remain on his main agenda. I don't even worry about how much time and effort were spent making him clean. Actually, you have to be careful about drying out their skin by taking the oils out. So, let them enjoy that roll in the dirt, painful as that might be to watch.

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

This is called a waterfall braid, like a french braid, which actually works really well on a horse that has a long mane. Henry's mane is really long and his tail almost goes to the ground and would if we didn't trim it. It really is beautiful, but, needs a little fussing now and again. I just know how much he loves having his hair done. :)

I want to thank @ace108 and @c0ff33a for hosting these challenges! I hope everyone is having a #BeautifulSunday, Sublimely so! And just like that, this post is over! Come back tomorrow and we will do it again!

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;Bold

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Braid of horse looks really cool, such a nice idea. Waterfall braid sounds really very creative, whoever made it just apply good idea I must say. It bring a unique look of horse and we can identify our horse easily this way.

It is fun to do different braids on his mane. It is a long mane and I like to keep it off his neck when it is so hot outside. It is a bonus that it looks good!

At 94F/34C, the horses were warm and it called for a cool hose down, maybe even a bath. It's a great day to spend with my girls at the barn.

34 °C is hot. Nowadays we have similar temperatures in Hungary. Around 30 °C.

I know it is three days in a row, but, Monday, they are calling for a reprieve and cooler temperatures. I believe it will only be 75F/24C, so that will be a perfectly lovely day.

Maybe even a little warmer than it should be.

What is your perfect temperature, one that is not too cold, not too hot, but, just right?

This probably depends on various things, for example on humidity. The perfect temperature is usually somewhere around 20-23 °C. But sometimes 20 °C can also feel hot. The current temperature is 17 ˚C. Almost good. Currently we are in the morning. According to the weather forecast, it will be 25 °C in the afternoon.

That true. It is warm all over the world. Because I don't have a coat as the horses do, it is not quite as warm as it feels to him. There are many days where it is warm and they don't get hosed down, but, it is nice if we can offer a little bit of cool.

He never complains, either way. :))

I don't really like humidity, it just makes everything stickier or colder if it is winter. Can we have a little less of that?

I hope you are having a great weekend!

wow @dswigle! what beautiful pictures!

The eye photo is spectacular, through it is reflected the beautiful soul of that great horse.

The picture where he's rolling around reminds me of my dogs every time I give them a bath! They go straight to dive head first to get dirty again.

Beautiful Sunday that you have shared!

Big hug

He does love to roll around a bit, especially after a bath or when he gets wet. I know that it is normal for him, but to watch it after a perfectly nice bath?

It makes me laugh. Have a super Sunday~

@ace108 has the challenge called #BeautifulSunday, where we share our day in the most possibly beautiful way that we can. Basically, you post on what you do for the day. It is a nice challenge and lets you share your day with everyone.

@c0ff33a has #SublimeSunday and I usually post them together. #SublimeSunday lets you post whatever you want, it is up to you.

I remember last year you were here. Welcome back!

Amazing pictures! Each of them as a separate little story. I love horses very much, and when I saw this braided mane, I received a good mood. Really! Your posts inspire with their poetry. 💖

Thank you. That is very kind of you. Every picture has a story, doesn't it? I do love horses, although they are a lot of work some days, but anything worth it usually is, isn't it?

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you have a super Sunday! ❣️

Many thanks for a Super Sunday!

I love the shot of the little cat. Ok, I'll be honest and say I just love the cat, even if the image was bad (which yours are not), I'd still love the cat.

Haha! Of course, you do! I spotted the I love kitties in your voice. Grey is a pretty cool cat and I don't usually show his eyes as he is blind in one eye, which I am sure happened when he was out catting about. But, he is a sweetie.

You are really kind. These shots are cell phone shots. I swapped phones yesterday and am still adjusting to the change. It will get better. :)

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you had a Super Sunday!

I was so annoyed changing phones over a short time ago, getting all the apps and things working, logged in and all. They said it was easy. They lied.

Anyway, the weekend isn't far off and I hope you have a nice one Denise.

Hi Denise! I love Henry's mane and his look. I've never seen a horse with braided hair before. And poor Grey makes me sad that he's coming back all bruised from his wanderings, but I guess that's the life of cats that are used to come and go.
I hope you had a lovely Sunday 🤗🌻

That Henry is so beautiful !

How fun was that ?

It IS hot for sure..... but not inside, thankfully.

That horse be looking like a cute wife who just got her hair done. Haha and the cat should prolly be feeling cute too looking at it's reflection but also alert because somehow it may be confused that another cat as cute as it is, is in the water so it's just gonna wait patiently in case of any trespassing then it'll pounce on it🤣.

I love the flower up there it's mesmerizing🥺.

Hello Denise.

Henry is beautiful. That braid in his main looks really good, it suits him. I laughed when I saw him rolling in the dirt, that's so cool. I know it's like just after his bath, but typical 'dude' right?

He is clearly very loved and I think he knows it 😉

I'm so glad you enjoyed your Sunday.

Oh, truth! He is such a man, in every way. I actually prefer female animals, the nuance of being male can be too much of a pain. I especially prefer female cats, although I have one male. Females generally are better mousers (for the barn) and don't need to go get a fix down the alley with Sally.

We like braiding his hair, the female has shorter hair, so we doll him up. :)

He is so very loved and yes! He knows it! Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you are having a great week!

Hahaha his personality definitely shone through from your words and pictures. I've always found that male animals tend to have more "spunk" if you can call it that. I used to have pet rats when I was a child and the males were so fun, playful and full of bounce where the females were far more quiet and loving. I loved them both equally but they had very different love languages. I know, that must sound weird about rats. They make awesome pets though.

Lol oh boy I can imagine how your male horses wanting to jump the gate to go greet Sally with a

could be rather troublesome 🤣

Enjoy Henry and all his antics. Have a lovely day

Not so weird, although not for me. I had gerbils. :) Rats just grossed me out! LOL My nephews had them, so they don't bother me, but, I don't want to hold them.

Gerbils are cool too. I had a gerbil called Silent Bob. He was a grumpy little thing, but I loved him. What were yours called?
