The Sea is calling Market Friday

avatar

The sea is calling. Can you hear it? It has been months since I sailed the high seas; in fact, it was right as the world closed their borders to COVID, slipping home at just the right time. My brother was on a ship of another flag and it was the last ship allowed to dock freely in the United States. The port was rolled up behind him and his family. We had met them at several different ports and our Captain cut short the trip to get home. I booked a trip so far into the future, I may expire by then.

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) I hope you will join me as we share different markets across the globe. I always look forward to seeing what you send me! It is amazing to see so many markets from all over the world, sharing different cultures. So unique they are, in many ways.

IMG-20180816-WA0083.jpeg

Please leave the link to your post on here so it can easily be found by others. They are so much easier to find in one place. Where else can you take such a quick trip around the globe? Thank you so much for joining us!! ❤

I have to wonder what the new normal will be like on a ship? The tables are so close, there are crowds in some places. I need to revisit some of this and see if it has a chance of recovery.

Italian Cruise MSN.jpg

There are beautiful staircases everywhere. Everyone touches the handrail. I have learned how to never touch them. I can only think how many cooties I can get from that!

IMG-20180413-WA0059.jpg

Above is one of the ships I cruised on last year. I like destinations and it is just an alternative to going on a traditional vacation. Let's call it a floating holiday. There were times it was a quick, spur of the moment booking when I got some time off and truly it feels good to get pampered and waited on. A little anyway...but those days are over, for the moment.

Le sigh.

MSN Mereviglia.jpg

This is just another different #MarketFriday, but, who doesn't love to be a little bit different? I can be from a traditional market, but it doesn't have to be. But, then, I love being practical too. So there is no right or wrong here, just what drives you to post that week. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or for merchandise. Be different if you wish! It does not have to be a traditional market! Don't forget to use the hashtag #MarketFriday and @dswigle.

The first time I saw a car parked on the promenade of a ship, I couldn't believe my eyes. Why? Well, it does make a nice addition to the photo ops around and quite nice to be sure. No, I didn't. If I wasn't driving it, I wasn't faking it. To be clear, the promenade is the wide boulevard or main walkway where people stroll. It is usually the widest part of the ship, as far as boardwalks.

7ohP4GDMGPrUMp8dW6yuJTR9MKNu8P8DCXDU9qmmjcmmMX3CTjfetF7My3KNPasFa5JoE8VeapCBCuovc2mnS6Mtppxo4jYXg3DA.jpg

On this ship, the last time I counted, there were five pools on this ship, plus the kiddie pool. That is a lot of pool. Now granted, they don't make them too big, but nice enough that you can have an enjoyable time without too much suffering.

Nobody is allowed to suffer here.

20191020_222502.jpg

Music. All of the ships, big and small have music, everywhere you go. It is soft, playing there in the background, the mood lighting making a peaceful atmosphere. These are the moments cherished, where you find yourself living the dream, your imagination blowing through the ship. On the Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Sea, you go down a flight of stairs to a place called the Crypt, a nightclub that will play appropriate Goth-themed music. You want it, they have it. Karaoke is a favorite. I may or may not have done it. What happens on Royal Caribbean stays there. You know the rules of the road.

IMG-20180822-WA0013.jpeg

The shops onboard are abundant! Big ship, little ship. They have it all, but, you don't have to buy it. I like to look and even try it on. Jewelry, sundries, upscale clothing, shoes, purses, watches... You name it, they may have it. The shops are open late and where else can you shop for a bangle or a diamond tennis bracelet at eleven-thirty at night? I tried on a tennis bracelet and a black sapphire and diamond bangle. Hmm... Which do you like better?

Question: What travels faster, hot or cold?

Answer: Hot is faster because you can catch a cold!

One of the newer ships in the fleet of Royal Caribbean and it has murals painted all over the ship. Truly like eye candy, it was. It is no secret that I love art - from street art to the Masters, hanging in the museums. This ship was right up my proverbial alley. Nice job, Royal! I think that truly many of the big ships on different cruise lines have the wow factor. You can go small and very laid back or you can be wowed the entire time on the big ships. I like to mix it up and go on both, although, I will say that the bigger ships cannot get into many ports, so if you are looking for unique ports, the small ships are what you should lean towards.

IMG-20161008-WA0001.jpg

I am from the Washington, DC area, so my idea of peace is someplace with a coconut palm and a sandy beach, preferably white. The epitome of tropical paradise. Yes, please.

20191025_103846.jpg

However, I have a true love for rocky beaches, someplace where the water beats on the rocks and you would never swim there, but, you love it anyway.

IMG-20161011-WA0011.jpg

Did I talk about the food? Oh, the food! They had a meat-eaters banquet every night, along with fish, vegan, and every other kind you can think of. Above: Prime Rib, one of their favorites to offer up, and below is Beef Wellington and lobster tails, with an array of veggies and whipped potatoes. Truly an art the way they serve. We played with the food a little bit before I took the pictures. Sorry!

IMG-20180626-WA0001.jpg

I love their presentations. Even if the food weren't as awesome as it was, it looks so good, I would want to try it. But, this is heaven right here. Rack of Lamb. This is actually the best lamb I have ever had. New Zealand Lamb and I have it every time they offer it and it is consistently amazing.

IMG-20180626-WA0010.jpg

If I had one special service allowed me in life, I think I would have a chef. I have learned how much more I enjoy the meal when I haven't spent all that time toiling in the kitchen, but, rather enjoying it. Does that say I am lazy? It's just a fantasy.

CUE THE MUSIC MAESTRO!!

We'll let Lorde sing about Royal. I probably could have chosen better, but, I couldn't resist the urge to pair Lorde's song Royals with Royal Caribbean.

20191029_120751.jpg

The dining rooms are all stunning. They set the tables formal (although there are plenty of informal places to eat if you prefer) and you select from a varied menu every night. That makes it nice to have different choices. If you are allergic to something, they take good care of you. Of course, it is not only Royal that does this, but, most of the cruise ships. If you go on enough of them, you will pick a favorite.

IMG-20190212-WA0032.jpeg

I want to thank you for taking this trip with me. There were literally hundreds of other venues that we could check out, but, I will cut it off here! I will have to think long and hard about sailing again. There is so much risk involved. So, what do you think? Would you go after COVID is put to rest? I appreciate your taking the time and energy to read the post and I hope that you have a most wonderful #MarketFriday!

Memories of making trips, adventure on the high seas how fortunate you did when you did, now looking back on the fairy tale encounter so short lived.

Oh the black sapphire and diamond bangle looks elegant, more glitzy in warmth of colour, the rocks along bays with lighthouse guiding the way, far more extravagant in value.

Wishing you a wonderful day in the comfort of your home.

I am very fortunate that I have spent the last two years cruising all over the world and visiting and living around the world and I was a few years younger. I can't help thinking that life as I knew before will never be the same. Even if things go back to seemingly normal oh, I don't think I will ever have that Carefree feeling that I've had since I was a teenager traveling.

I do love the bangle but you are right with the lighthouse being far more extravagant. I absolutely adore lighthouses and I have been making arrangements to stay in one as a Airbnb this year. I can only imagine how cool that would have felt to wake up there. When I was young my dad used to take us out on the boat to get us out of her mother's hair. She has nine children. Anyway oh, many times we would drop anchor and sleep overnight on one of the islands in New England I remember waking up to you the tide Rolling In and Out. I do love the ocean!

Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your wonderful words!

I traveled extensively in my youth, am very glad I did. Totally agree things will never be the same, actually have not been since 9/11 way too many rules implemented, now it will only become worse.

A lighthouse on an island would be a dream come true for at least six months to totally relax, replenish mind and soul, never stop dreaming it is healthy...

Growing up we were four children, holidays always by train travel, another thing sorely missed. Your dad taking you out on a boat must have been fun, a wonderful experience, we were sent into the garden to do chores more often than not, or play outside.

Haha! Yes!!! When we were home during the season of growth, the older kids were sent to the garden to weed after dinner! I think they just liked keeping us out of trouble. ;)

That cruise ship looks like an amazing place, very upscale, well-appointed, and definitely colorful with interesting things around every turn! Love that first shot at the elevator, but my fave is the staircase with the sparkles on it! 😊

Of course, your always-a-flower shot is stunning! 😍

They really are, almost all of them and I have definitely found an advantage to hopping on a cruise as opposed to planning out a vacation, especially if it's spur of the moment.

I do love the elevators on that ship oh, but I have to agree with you that the diamond encrusted staircase is a real head-turner. They have that on every staircase! And oh, thank you so much for the comment on my always a flower shot! I'm beginning to think that you cannot possibly take a bad picture hibiscus. No matter what you do to them they come out looking all sunshine and happy.

Thank you for stopping by and always leaving your kind and generous words behind.

There goes the cruise ship again!!! 😍😍😍 Of course my eyes gorge on each and every picture! The dining hall's table setting is extravagant. Actually, everything is extravagantly designed. No place for inferior stuffs. Hahaha! 😂

Tropical paradise destination, who doesn't want that?!? One day, I'll take you there (in one of my posts. Bwahaha! 😂)

And I'm being reminded to contribute something for #MarketFriday! What can I contribute when I haven't gone to the market for sooooooo long?!? Hmmmmm.. 🤯

Haha! True! There is another cruise ship, although this time there are two intermingled. I was trying to get the point across that they are such wonderful places and truly extravagant, but, will I ever feel like going on one again?

Will people be too close for my liking? Will they be able to keep it properly sanitized? The in and outs at the port make it a germ festival if there is anything out there, and then, on the other hand, will the ports let them enter? There is so much going on that it is something I am not going to be visiting for a while.

Oh, yes! You can take me there in one of your posts! That would be fun! :)

I didn't go to the market either, so I had to get a little creative. Some days it is hard to make a post, but, I put this up and hope nobody minds.

"Germ festival." Hahaha! 😂 Ypu made me laugh. Yes, it's very easy for the virus to lurk in the corners of the ship. But I guess, in order for the shipping industry to lure the people to sail with them again, they would surely sanitize their ships upside down! It's such a huge industry and luxurious at that. So I really guess that they would do so much in order for them to be able to convince YOU to sail with them. 😬😁 I don't know. I think it would be such a waste if they would not do that. Maybe not too soon; maybe when the time comes that there's a vaccine for everyone. I don't know if I'm very, very optimistic, but I just believe so. Hahaha. 😂

But now that there is no vaccine yet, then people should be wary to set sail for a while.

Take care my dear @dswigle.

0

avatar

It is easy and people do sanitize pretty well on a regular basis, the problem comes in with having people get on and off the ship and well, that just brings more cooties. Right?

I have no doubt that they will be getting in under control with a vaccine, but, just when that happens, something else will show up.

I am very optimistic and know that we are under the protective cover of God. He will take good care of us. xoxo

Have a great day @gingababida!

Hahaha! 😂 You are right, Denise. When the vaccine becomes available something new will come up! 🤐

This difficult time ahead of us is actually prophesied in the Bible so it is expected. It foretells: "There will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another food shortages and pestilences" or epidemic. (Lu 21:11) But it is comforting to know that God assures us at Isaiah 41:10: "Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you, I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.’" So no matter how bleak the future may be, we need not be afraid because God is with us! 😊😍

It has been heading that way for a while. Every time we have a natural disaster, and there have been plenty of them lately, that springs to mind. The Bible is what all the churches are leaning on now, and we can be calm, knowing there is nothing to fear in the end.

I went on a cruise as a baby, apparently! My parents used to do them a lot. I like the idea of waking up in different cities and towns but I don't like the idea of being surrounded by so many people (or getting stuck on a table with people like my parents!). So I don't think it will be something I will be doing.

It is Friday, so it is Market Day in our little town. I've been out (mask on) and taken some photos on this rather hot sunny day!

Haha! You don't have to get stuck at a table. They have so many different options for seating in different dining rooms, so I always get lucky that way. I don't usually go on the bigger ships as there are always too many people, so the smaller ones appeal to me.

I posted it mostly because I was wondering how much cruising will change with the new normal? I already know they will be taking on fewer people, but, does that mean the prices will go up? Undoubtedly. Well, good thing I like destination travel too. :)

Thank you for wearing a mask, some places just don't! We have to wear them here, but, even if we didn't, I would. It has been pretty warm out, I hope the doggies kept cool!

Those ships are incredible. There is more stuff in a ship like that than in most villages or towns. Unreal! 🤣

I'd love to have a swimming pool where I live in, it would be awesome. But there's not even a fish market or a butchery, let alone a swimming pool. 🙄

Thanks for your article and photos.

But, that only means you live in the country, which is nice, all in itself. You live in Portugal, I believe. The ships are pretty incredible, and yes! There is even an Ice Skating Rink, Bumper cars, Trapeze class, Cooking Classes/Demonstrations, Climbing Wall... It goes on and on.

I have to wonder how this pandemic will have changed the face of cruising. Good thing I am a fan of destination vacations also, but, right now, I am happy being home. :)

Lovely memories. I am optimistic, everything will be ok soon and yes, I will travel soon. My first cruise after this pandemic will be to Alaska. Or Caribbean island hoping. Never been to Trinidad. Let’s see. You said you booked a trip? When and where?

I am optimistic, but, I have to wonder how it will change the face of cruising. I had to cancel three and Royal Caribbean was giving people 150% credit if they didn't get the cashback, but, slid the cruise dates. I'm easy, so, I went for the extra $$ and onboard spending.

I have been to Trinidad, but, take Alaska! You won't be sorry. So far, one is booked for the Mediterranian cities and beaches next summer for two weeks. I will see how I feel about things once the dust clears.

I hope you are doing well and that you have a wonderful weekend!

What extensive staircases in that ship... and so different from the Gone with the Wind type of staircase. I know, right... the sea is calling! I canceled two trips for this year. I've ruled put any vacation out of town vacations too. I can wait, LOL!
Awesome #marketfriday share, my lovely friend @dswigle. I only have this for this #marketfriday. ENjoy it just the same. Have a beautiful day, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

Haha! The real point, which I didn't clearly state was to wonder how this pandemic will change the face of cruising. It has to. There are too many people, sitting too close and running up and down staircases, holding on, spreading their cooties.

So I have three cruises canceled, but, Royal Caribbean gave us all 150% credit and onboard spending if we took a credit instead of the cashback. Yes, please. It was a good deal and if they go bankrupt, which is doubtful, I'll eat it. If it ends well, I will get a suite. ;)

I am not going out of town either, except to my other house on the Eastern Shore (ie BEACH!) so, I am all good about the no travel. I would rather wait for myself and be safe! Thanks so much for making the effort! I love it !!!! I really do!

May your day be as beautiful as your heart. Have a great weekend!

I'm sure land and air travel has to stablise first before our mindset get ready for sea again.

This looks fantastic! I've never been on a cruise. Not sure when it will be safe to cruise again - maybe in a couple of years! Oh well, now I feel like I've been on a cruise! I don't really know if I would like a cruise. I would only go if I could stay in a room with a window. A cruise to Alaska sound good to me! I told a friend this week that I'm longing to just go with my husband this summer to a beach for a week and just sit where I can read and listen to the ocean - my favorite place was the Florida Keys, or to the mountains of Colorado for a week and stay in a cabin and sit on a porch and read or contemplate nature. Also I would walk on the beach or take a hike in the mountains. I just want to escape! I don't like reality right now, with facing this pandemic! Have a great weekend!

Well the sea may be calling but you had best hang up that call! I am willing to bet it will take a good while before they figure out how they are going to get a shipful of people out and about without it becoming a shipful of virus! Of course I love to see all the lovely photos and I really want to go on a cruise but I am happy to put that on the bottom of the bucket list for now. Cant believe people are buying cruise ship stocks! Surely would think that is one investment that may end up under water LOL. Get it? See what I did there? Brilliant, no? Oh I am my biggest fan of course LOL. Good bye! Wait! I almost forgot...

Seriously. If you read the whole post, you would have seen that is at the bottom of my bucket list!!!! Haha! I would hang up on that call! Yes! You are right. I would have to! Although I did book one, it is so far out, I may be long expired by then, I'll be so old. That is how far out it is!

I agree that the trips are fun, the pictures are fun to look at and it is fun to take them too. You know what I thought of?? Just as you were getting ready to let yourself out in the world and tear it up on an endless vacation, the options were taken off the table.

Coincidence?

I think not. This begs me to say that if we get locusts this year, that town will be chasing you all the way back to Michigan. Didn't you ever wonder why you have so much snow, rain, fog? Just kidding, but, it did make my mind wander a moment or three.

Oh, you are just being mean because you know I have cruise ship stock! LOL Don't worry, I throw it back everyday to prevent me from sinking along with it... But, yes, that was pretty brilliant. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your witty wonderful words and dropping the link!

I made a method of reading a blog. First of all, I take a general look, without reading, I look at the graphic aspect of the post. Then, if the first impression is good, I start reading.
When I saw this blog I thought of "The Great Gatsby" and a Hollywood blockbuster. In a good way. I think it's very nice to be there.

Not into large ship cruises, but very much into palm trees and beaches. I also enjoy a good morning or afternoon snorkeling catamaran trip. Been on a couple of those and awesome. Hope you have a chance to get out and about soon!

There you are! I haven't been able to reach you, almost any way I tried. I thought you jumped ship. Oh, you know you want a cruise! Tell me true! :)

The bigger ships have more ammenities, so you get the wow and the luxury of delicious dinners, spa and well, you know... Thai life. :)

I am doing well and keeping as safe as one can. The bad management is basically on the people, but, we can blame him. Hehe. Everyone else is. We came by the virus later than most of the world with a larger population to contain and too many overpopulated areas. I think it is a mix of that and people taking their freedom too seriously.

I live in the DC area and Northern Virginia and it is doing better than a lot of the country for such a populated area. I am in an isolated community, so I am lucky. I hope all is well with you and hello? What the heck is going on with your account?

Miss you and your awesome comments and posts!

Yep i am still here and doing ok if i could jump ship i would be on that cruise ship right now or maybe not isn't a good time for traveling but i am enjoying the quietness here in Thailand with no tourist around i have all the beaches to myself been busy relaxing , fishing and enjoying life basically.

It is a big country to control the America's can be pretty stubborn people but am happy you are more in a isolated community and doing well.

Long story with my account they just didn't want to listen to my facts so very rude so i could not be bothered anymore it is a shame , i was really enjoying it but it is what it is , i will still check in now and then.

You take care yourself and nice to hear back from you also and thanks for trying to contact me your always been so thoughtful , helpful and kind ❤️

My best regards to you and family 😊
