Ubud: The Cultural Heart of Bali

avatar

I've heard that there are 80,000 shrines and temples just on the island of Bali. At its center is the beautiful little town of Ubud. It may be the cultural heart of the island, and is now a bustling artisan and tourism town. But it manages to maintain its cultural roots with temples around each corner. It also changes dramatically just outside of the town. The hustle and bustle of shops and restaurants disappears, and you find yourself in the most relaxing fields of rice. I would take my morning walks out into the fields.

If you are planning on going to Bali anytime soon, definitely put Ubud on your list.

A half day trip from Ubud will take you to several important temples and shrines around Bali.

Always be ready to spend extra time exploring the trails that lead from the temples. You never know what magical grottos you might find.

I wanted to add a little color with the blooming flowers in the foreground.

The culture remains. Hard at work in the middle of Ubud.

I just love the narrow streets of Ubud. They are perfect for walking and quite exciting for motorbiking.

A rare picture of myself, enjoying a relaxing morning in Bali. This photo, more than any of the above, makes me want to go back.

Now you know why Ubud is a can't miss.
