Trekking through Gandhar Village and Beyond

After 2 km came Bada Bantoli, from here dense forest and steep climb started. We all started moving forward slowly while chanting Jai Shankar. Shailesh bhai walks slowly but does not stop. This is considered good in the mountains. Ahead came a rainy season where we stopped and ate some dry food. Fatigue was clearly visible on everyone's face. Shailesh bhai clearly said that today we will rest for the night in Khatrakhal. We had reached Khatrakhal at around 5 o'clock. Here we stayed at Fateh Singh's place. Fateh Singh is a very gentle and well mannered person. The decision to stay here was absolutely right. Took a room for Rs. 600 which was very clean and good. Food was Rs. 70 per person. Sunset was about to set. We drank tea and went out for a little walk. We were all happy to see the beauty around. Tiredness had disappeared. When it got dark, Fateh Singh asked for food, we all went to his kitchen to have food. The food cooked on a wooden stove was roti, daal which was such that it was not available even in a good dhaba, soyabean potato curry, pickle and rice, even today my mouth waters when I remember it. After eating, my mind was satisfied. We all went to rest.

2 km के बाद आया बड़ा बन्तोली यहाँ से घन्घोर जंगल व खड़ी चढ़ाइ शुरू हो गई. जय शंकर का नारा लगाते हम सभी धीरे धीरे आगे बढ़ने लगे. शैलेश भाई धीरे चलते हैं पर रुकते नहीं. ये पहाड़ में अच्छा माना जाता है. आगे एक वर्षा सालिका आई जहा रुककर हम लोगों ने कुछ ड्राइ फ़ुड खाया. थकान सभी के चेहरे पे साफ़ झलक रही थी. शैलेश भाई ने साफ़ कह दिया आज हम लोग ख़तराखाल मे रात्रि विश्राम करेंगे. लगभग 5 बजे हम खतराखाल पहुंच चुके थे. यहा फ़तेह सिंह के यहा रुके. फ़तेह सिंह बेहद सौम्य व सुशिल व्यक्ति है. यहा रुकने का निर्णय बिल्कुल सही था. 600/रु में एक कमरा लिये जो बेहद साफ़ सुथरा और अच्छा था. भोजन का 70/रु प्रति व्यक्ति. सुर्यास्त होने वाला था. हम लोग चाय पिकर थोड़ा घुमने निकले आस-पास की खुबसुरती देख हम सभी प्रसन्न थे. थकान गायब हो गया था. अंधेरा होने पर फ़तेह सिंह भोजन के लिए बोले, हम सभी उनके रसोई में भोजन करने गए. लकड़ी के चुल्हे पर बना भोजन रोटी, दाल ऐसा कि अच्छे ढाबा मे भी न मिले, सोयाबीन आलु की सब्जी, अचार व चावल आज भी याद कर मुह में पानी आ जाता है. भोजन करके मन तृप्त हो गया. हम सभी अब आराम करने चले गए.

सुबह 5 बजे नित्यकर्म से निवृत हो चाय पी हम सभी आगे बढ़ने लगे. लगभग 7.30 में कुन चट्टी पहुचे. यहाँ के एकमात्र शिखर प्रिन्स होटल में मैगी खाए. होटल में लगे बोर्ड से पता चला कि हम समुद्रतल से 2780 मीटर की ऊँचाई पर हैं. वापस आते एक सज्जन से शैलेश भाई ने पूछा कि और कितनी दूर है वो बोला उपर जो बर्फ़िले पहाड़ की चोटी दिखाई दे रहा है ठीक उसके सामने पहुंच जाओ तो समझना आ गया. सुनकर मैं हसने लगा. इसीलिए कहा जाता है कि पहाड़ में कभी दुरी ना पुछना चाहिए क्योंकि ज्यादातर लोग मनोबल तोड़ने का काम करते हैं.
