EcoTrain Question Of The Week season 9.1: What does spirituality mean to me

The matter of spirituality starts with whether an individual believes in the creation story or evolution. The advancement in science has made it difficult for many to believe in what is unseen. However, science does not believe in the invisible as they try to find answers to every occurrence. Unfortunately, the chaos and tribulations the world is facing is making many shift to believing there's an invisible and sovereign God behind the mysteries that cannot be explained. There are mysteries that science cannot explain. Albert Einstein, one of the greatest scientists, got to a stage where he couldn't explain certain things but had to admit that there was someone or something that controlled the universe.

I see spirituality more than just the concern for that which is unseen, or appreciation for religious value. Even the bible sees a pure religion as an act of visiting the fatherless and widows in their affliction. So spirituality is not just the worship of a god but the impact we make to humanity, spirituality should be able to open our eyes to the truth of who we really are and this knowledge would help us spread love to all beings. Spirituality helps us connect in a deeper sense the true meaning of life.

In the beginning, according to the creation story, man was created with a purpose, and this purpose was to take dominion over the other things that were created aside man. Men begin to lose this purpose as their fellowship with their maker grows weary and evil begins to occupy their heart. They seek after adventure and this results in men exploring all devices forsaking their maker. Now, evil dominated and the world began to suffer war, disasters, hunger , loss of identity, greed, all forms of wickedness, etc. People no longer know why they were created, or why they were brought into this world, they just live life as it is and can't tell who they are or what path they're supposed to take. Spirituality brings us back to the beginning where men had good fellowship with their maker. It opens the eyes of a man's understanding to know who he truly is, why he was created, and his purpose here on Earth.

Most times we know we bear a name everyone calls us. A name like "John, Alex, Margaret, Jean, etc. We don't know why we are called such names, but spirituality helps us understand why we bear the name we do, it makes us know who really is me, why I'm called John. It's through this realization that we see life in its purest form, we embrace nature, and love men as we should. Spirituality is more than a religion. Religion was created by men when they first called a group of disciples christians. That's not spirituality, spirituality is knowing who you are, connecting with your maker, seeing life in its purest form, and extending a helping hand in love to those who need it. Throughout Christ ministry, he tried to draw us to our maker by ministering a message of love. His coming and death was centred on love, at a point he identified love as the greatest of all commandments. If I should wrap it up, I would say spirituality is love in its purest form.
