Part two: Ifi and the spirit girl

The king summoned a meeting after conversing with ifi, he was worried and all the city of Susa with him. "A young lady named ifi delivered a message believed to be from the gods our forefathers worshipped and they leave a threat of calamity to befall on us" the king told the elders present in the meeting. "What does the gods demand" the elders asked. "That we restore the ritual of presenting sacrifice to them but I bluntly asked ifi to tell the spirit we would do no such thing". One of the elders who was the oldest among them cleared his throat, he protruded his mouth to show of his disagreement to the kings decision. "My king, I have lived for many years and I know the gods are powerful. For years we have enjoyed peace because they choose not to trouble us, let's give them all they seek and in return enjoy what we have kept enjoying for years".
" God forbid" the king retort , " why then did we accept this new religion introduced to us by the white if we wouldn't be faithful and trust in this God, I have taken my decision and it's final" , immediately the king dismissed them and went into his chamber.

Ifi did not return to the spirit , as days went by, the spirit resolved to cause havoc in the land. First lightening strike and in a day killed a 100 people. The people of Susan became greatly troubled, everyone blamed the king of his decision not to give to the gods what they demanded, "it's better to offer 10 persons than loose a 100 persons in a day" people kept saying. The next day , the harvest in the land began to go dry, every farm land became unproductive . Shortly famine fell in their land but the king did not change his mind, his decision remained. He engaged the villagers into fasting and praying but the complain did not seize. Each day the villagers recorded a death and they never departed from troubling the king to give heed to the spirit. The spirit girl again visited ifi at the cool of the day "tell your king, it's not yet the end, the battle line has been drawn", " You are a looser" ifi replied. She laughed filling the air with the resounding of her laughter then varnished into thin air.

"I don't need any message from your spirit girl" the king stopped ifi half way as she start to say out the message given to her. " All we need is prayer, outside that, I don't need other words". The words seem to have registered meaning into ifi's mind, she had been a Christian but all along, she had believed the king was too religious to have denied the gods their demand. Maybe she's the one who has been unfaithful in her service to God. She took it upon herself to evangelize the light to men "if we accept the bidding of the spirit, the spirit will forever torment us with their plea but if we win this battle, then we would be free and our children with us forever" ifi preached this moving around the village. This brought light into the eyes of the elders and the people of Susa. They held weeks of fasting and praying for their land.

Few months later, their was a heavy rain with thunder and lightning, amidst the rain seems like a battle between powers then there was calmness. The next morning, the land of Susa began to experience spring of water and the green grasses sprouting up. No death was recorded and their farm produce was again springing in double folds. At last, the land once again received peace but not for a short time but up to this age. Freedom came at last from the oppression of evil spirit.

The End

It's interesting (and true) that a writer may offer a story with a certain message in mind, but the reader takes the story and gives it meaning the context of that reader's life. It seems to me this is not only a religious parable, but also a parable about fighting for what is right, for what one believes in. This is not an easy battle, ever. The goal is not always clear. And yet, according to your story, if we remain true to principle, in the end right will win out.
We live in troubled times (aren't all times troubled?). This is a relevant parable for all of us.
