Should We Believe In This Nigeria or Expect Another?|| The Incident of Oct. 20, 2020

This was the same message John the Baptist sent to Jesus when his faith was weary. We have heard several prophecies about the new Nigeria to come, a place which will someday be a pillar to nations, a land that will flow with milk and honey, attracting foreigners to her. The revolution has started, the youth are fed up, and our hope is gradually dying down. Today we ask, "should we believe in this nation?, Or should expect another?". The same people they call the leaders of tomorrow are being massacred in cold blood, what was their crime,? They only desired a better Nigeria.

The democracy of today has been polluted and corrupted with greed. The same leaders who promised us a better change had made life miserable for us, we are cajoled to believe we are the government of the people, by the people, and for the people, but we are being denied the freedom of speech. We sit in our confines, dabbled with dictatorship in a democratic form, our tongues tied to the ground, and our power oppressed by authority. The youths are dying, the old are starving, the children are crying, and our future is being smashed to the wall and we ask, should we still believe in this nation, or expect another?.

I watch soldiers fall to the ground like common men, being a youth and financially stable was their crime, they plead for their lives but were sent to an early grave. Their parents grieved for they were the breadwinners of their homes. The streets became daring, our freedom of movement was stolen from us, our mouths were covered with handkerchieves and we were strangled to the dust, youth with the prospect of a bright future lost it all as their blood-soaked the soil of this nation, and we ask, should we still believe in this nation, or expect another?.

Our leaders sit on their throne and laugh at us, they called us lazy and encouraged us to survive on our own. We work day and night to survive, but it was out of their league to become prosperous, grow rich, and die was the game and you never beat them in their game. Oh, Nigeria, the country built from the labor of past heroes, oh see how thou has fallen, she eats up her young before they could hatch and drink the blood of the weak, October 20, 2020, a day we will never forget. A day that has burdened our heart to ask, should we still believe in this nation, or expect another?.
