Life After School In Nigeria : Bottom Line Survival

Just to get good grades,come out of the university in flying colors to either make their parents, sponsors, family, or the general public proud.

Or even to make a good way for themselves by graduating with good grades and co. just to earn a good living and become somebody great in life; I feel sobbed and disheartened most times seeing the rewards they get for it at the end.

I ask myself this question most of the time: (Is it truly worth it in the end??) I mean, despite all the stress, discomfort, and great efforts being made by the majority of these young students. There were lots of sleepless nights, some of them had to battle with, and the rest.

Some of them still had to battle with unstable mental health in the sense that some of them don't really get to concentrate in class due to lack of funds (lack of what to eat, a lot of bills to pay), etc.

Some of them barely even have the opportunity to eat for days. Some of them partake in activities like: 000,001,011,100, and 101 (rich man, pikin go think say na binary numbers 😂).

Some of them still go miles to make it to early morning lectures and co. (But it can only be God because of the way things are in the country.) Meeehhhheeen, it can be so disheartening 💔.

Some of them still manage to run a school lifestyle with businesses and co., which is not for the weak. Sincerely, it takes a very strong person to be able to run both at the same time, and most of these young people engage in this just to be able to pay for some fees in school and also to satisfy personal needs and be okay. And despite all this, at the end, you'd see a lot of graduates out there, not just ordinary graduates.

Graduates with first-class uppers and co. who devoted their time to education and also tried all they could in their power to become somebody and not liabilities to anyone. Being offered jobs of #40,000, #70,000, #100,000, and co. for a start in a country where things get expensive daily.

You'd even find some companies asking a fresh graduate who's just about to start his or her own life for a working experience of 3-5 years—like, I mean, how? Where does he or she get it from??.

While some of them would ask for something in return, like sex, money, etc., before helping secure a job,.

Some of these graduates self can barely boost of having #1000 times. Going out every day to seek jobs to avoid just sitting at home without doing anything.

Submitting CVs everywhere and waiting patiently for an interview For hours that most likely might never hold at the end and co.

And in the end, some of them don't end up getting a job. Despite all the walking around, the money for transportation being spent, and a lot of patience waiting,.

For how long will this continue?? Some of these young people are just getting to face life now. Some of them were too busy with studies (which is a good thing) and weren't thinking about life after school.

And what I meant by that is if some of them were also engaged in little business and had been exposed before that particular period in their lives.

Some of them wouldn't have had a tough time trying to survive now. Some of them haven't had the opportunity to fish for themselves before.

So it's been really hard for some of them to adapt now. And most parents in the country of Nigeria just believe when you're out of school and done with the necessary things like your nysc and co.

They believe they've done their part in your life, and it's now left for you to start your life all by yourself. So if you're someone who has never been independent at some point in your life, it's a pity you obviously have to learn the hard way in the country of Nigeria.

It's not their fault, though; it's just the situation some of them find themselves in.

Some of them invested most of their time, money, and energy and made lots of efforts and sacrifices, striving hard to become somebody in life through education. The sad part about this is that most of these graduates came from nothing with the hope of becoming something at the end of their education.

Some of their family looks up to them, believing that they should be able to change their storyline in no time.

Meanwhile, there's no work out there. This has led to a lot of things in the country because of the pressure to make quick money by any means. This has led many to do fraud (yahoo), rituals, kidnapping, arm robbery, prostitution (hook up), and many more.

And sincerely, I don't think I can judge or blame anyone for doing whatever thing they did because some of these people were way too young to face most of these things. They got exposed to life wildly.

Not until you find yourself in any of these situations will you realize how it feels to be in a tight corner in life.

I'm talking about people who did it out of pressure from either parents, loved ones,family,peer groups, or the general public itself. And Note: (I never said any of this was good or bad.) I'm not in support of any of that, but I bet some of the people who judge these people would have done worse if they were in their shoes.

But I just pray we don't get to be in a tight corner, whereas we get to make a decision that isn't coming from our hearts but from the pain life itself has shown us.

Yes, we all have one or two things we face in life, but I want you to also see things from the angle that what you survive with less pain might kill another.

Not everyone has the strength to endure or take pains being shown by life towards them. I'm not speaking for people who did that out of their own selfish interests, though.

But I'm literally speaking for people who had to take that one bold step,who didn't have any other choice left with them, people who were changed by life and the people surrounding it.

Some of them even went as far as having one or two things to do with their lecturers just to finish with flying colors too. Some of them had to sleep with their lecturers, fund them, etc., not because some of them weren't brilliant or something. But most of this happens due to either hatred from the lecturer, selfish satisfaction from the lecturer,etc.

And if you refuse to do as some of them say, you'll hear threats like, ''Not on my watch nor in my lifetime would you graduate from this school, except you heed to what I said earlier and abide by it''. Which isn't just making any sense and isn't meant to be. This has led to a lot of students dropping out of school, being depressed, and causing a lot of pain in some aspects of their lives.

They're supposed to help us become leaders of tomorrow and make us better leaders to help brighten the future more. But instead,some of them don't think about tomorrow; rather, they satisfy their present needs in time.

In conclusion, I just wish everyone the best in life, and again, I would like to advise people to do whatever works for them the most. At the end, you'd be left alone to face reality itself. If education works for you, fine and good. work and put more effort into it. Education is the key, they say. Education is good, yes (school is not a scam), but do not rely on it alone. If it works for you, fine and good, and if hustling works for you too, fine and good, go into it and prosper.

Even the richest men in the world didn't have the opportunity to go to school. But there, they are doing beautifully well in life. Some of them dropped out and went to invest more of their time in something else. Do what works for you diligently. Because no one knows tomorrow or where one will prosper in life, if we do, everyone is going to stress less.

So choose what you think is best for you and work on it. So at the end, you'd be able to say, "I DID IT," because left to me, you'd have to bear the consequences alone, be they good or bad.

No one is ready to help or provide support. And if you get to see someone do that for you, it's just going to last for awhile before it fades away slowly.
