Hive, People, Adverts and Money
I was on a long uncomfortable journey from Western Nigeria to The South throughout yesterday and a bit of this morning. I took this long road because I could not afford a flight from Lagos to Portharcourt, so I took this long bus to the south.
During that time, I spent it consuming content from Youtube, particularly the shorts option. I enjoyed learning so much about the things people post and the kind of content I enjoy. I love behavioural sciences and a bit of social science. I made it through over 12 hours of sitting with short videos (kind of like what they have on Tik Tok) flashing through my face.
I enjoyed the content very much because it was easy to gather the points they handed out easily in these videos and at the same time I learned exactly what I wanted to learn and remembered the most important parts.
I have been talking to @taskmaster through his post’s comment section and I found it interesting his ideas for building a more attractive Hive. In his opinion having developers make better technology out of Hive is the way to go.
Having a nice framework for Hive is what will take us to the next level. TikTok currently has up to 3 billion users and you could argue that most of them are bots but I have seen in real-time how some rural areas in Nigeria have content creators who are trying to gather attention for themselves for different reasons. TikTok took the WhatsApp status (was it Snapchat?) and made it better.
The hope is that if you have billions of users giving you 1 dollar you have a billion dollars.
How do users give TikTok money?
When many people use TikTok it means something to companies who need attention for themselves too. As I said everyone is chasing attention, including content creators and companies. If they see proof that people are “working” in with your app they will want to pay you for it.
Youtube has been this model that TikTok is using and it has allowed users to be able to do the same. I am not even sure if these users are able to monetise their viewership but apparently, they keep posting. On TikTok, I think it is the same thing.
It leads me to believe that people find attention more important than money itself. Or maybe people know that they can get money from attention.
The Woke Ending
My Facebook and Instagram accounts go banned recently. I am not going to pretend I know why they got banned but they did. I heard a lot is going on in the Facebook/meta world and I feel sorry for Mark Zuckerberg. But to say the truth I really don’t. These days people are more interested in the truth way more than in punishing people for saying things they do not like.
Hive is in the perfect position to make something out of this and by something I mean something big.
YouTube has weird policies that stop people from saying words like Rape, Nigger and other words they find offensive. I have no problem with them doing that, it is their company. What I have a problem with is the fact that it doesn’t allow people to talk about these things or it makes it harder to talk about these things.
On Hive so far, we don’t have those policies and I really pray we don’t become ultra woke and I hope we don’t get to that point. I won’t mind Hive taking some of the sponsorship I see woke corporations getting but I would hate to see us dissolve into an oppression fest.
With this strategic position we are in we allow for the kind of content that let people think freely as they speak freely.
Developers
If Hive is going to grow, If we are going to get to the point of acceptance we need people to enjoy being here. They need to be able to consume all forms of content. We need a similar user interface option to what Tik Tok and YouTube shorts have.
If we can achieve this it will be one of the best things to happen to Hive.
I love the energy we have concerning plagiarism on Hive and I think it is the right way to go to ensure original content. But I think people love to see what celebrities say and think. I am not asking for a copy and paste content but I really believe that there should be a place for reposts and support of these reposts.
I see D.buzz as a good community for this but I wish there were more ways for people to easily point to their celebrity’s content.
I hope I was able to express myself properly in this post.
