The European union’s Energy Crisis is worse than we think| Threats from Qatar

Every country in Europe is badly affected by the energy crisis and it has been unbearable but there is a possibility that things can get worse than they already are. The problem right now is that there is no more gas coming from Russia and the countries are in such a vulnerable place with all their suppliers. The EU is at the mercy of every country that supplies the continent with oil and gas.

Now that every country in the EU has placed a ban on Russian oil and gas, they have become more reliant on the United States, Qatar, Azerbaijan and some others. The problem is not that the EU does not have anything to leverage on. They have no power to demand oil and gas and now are at the mercy of the countries that supply them.

While the US give the EU some allowance to speak up against them and hold them accountable the same can’t be said for Qatar. They are simply not allowing it to happen.

Europe went after Qatar when it was found that Qatar had bribed its leaders and bought out a European parliament vice president. The news had reached far and wide that Qatar had been involved with this ill politics and they needed the news to stop spreading. They are now calling it the Qatargate and Qatar is painted in a way that its leaders do not appreciate.

It is for this reason that Qatar has decided to place conditions on their supply of oil and gas. They have spoken openly against the investigations being done in Belgium where the European parliament is hosted.

The European Union stopped allowing a representative from Qatar from attending and it has also stopped an aviation agreement between Qatar and the EU. The Qatar government called it discriminatory and is raising an alarm as they are not the only country involved with bribing the European Panel leaders.

One other country named in this investigation has been Morocco but Qatar is not just some other country being named it is the largest supplier of oil and gas to the EU at the moment. Qatar has the 3rd largest serves in the world and is the 6th largest producer.

The bribe paid by Qatar was one for influence as the vice president of the parliament was reported to have gotten 1.2 million Euros and in their panel meetings was noted to praise Qatar for is hosting of the world cup even after the human rights scandals the country was involved in during the time.

What will be the next moves for the European Union? Where do they get oil and gas from now?

I believe that in the coming years there will be new commercial contracts regarding the European Union and energy suppliers. In my opinion, the countries of North Africa will benefit

Lol, as a person who goes days without electricity and with no need for a heater, I really admire your courage. I think it will be a very hard winter though.

In Nigeria sometimes we don't get to see electricity for weeks. I have never had a year with electricity...its easy sometimes but sometimes its freaking difficult, how do you think times will look like over there?

It would suck massive balls if not having Electricity during Winter!

But I do believe people can adapt or come up with solutions fast if needed and also, we here in the west, live very very comfortable!

Giving us a little bit of hardship wouldn't nessercery be a bad thing right? We could learn to appreciate things a bit more!

how do you think times will look like over there?

I think people would buy solar-powered generators for some of Power/Electricity or getting a Hand cranked Emergency Generator.

Food would properly be the biggest issue, since most people have modern stoves x)

That's the spirit anyway. I think we lack this in Africa. We really love hand-outs even to our own detriment.
