DCITY - new SIM accumulation phase beginning?

avatar

As you may know, DCITY remains a large portion of my portfolio. I play with several different strategies, such as zero-sim reward pool strategy, Research Mining Strats, Homeless Hunting Strats (which we have published posts/guides on each of), as well as some plain-jane SIM-strats on our main account. I consult with several clients and help others play and optimize their accounts. I am a two-term DCITY (ex)President.

All of this to say, I enjoy playing DCity.

One of the most exciting ways to play, for me, is to invent new ways to play. To find the underdiscovered strategies, to apply strategies to try to capture value from 2nd and 3rd order effects. I didn't always think this way. Originally I bought a few cards, and then proceeded to sell all of my SIM for months, no matter the price.

It wasn't until much later, with some discussion in the discord between many interesting people such as @josephsavage "Casino Joe" and @rishi556 "Mafia Boss" and of course @gerber "Baby Dev", that I stumbled upon some thoughts about second and third order effects. I have developed a few of my own strategies that I am not ready to reveal, but one of the main 2nd order effects of cyclical development release, in my eyes, would be cyclical SIM pricing.

Since I accumulated as much as 2 million SIM during the last dip, somewhere around October of 2019, the excitement around the subsequent 3rd edition release has pushed SIM price up to the peg of 0.005 and the reward pool has grown handsomely in the meantime. But the market is showing signs of exhaustion, and with 3rd edition release no where in sight, and not even an announcement of a future announcement has been released since 11/24/2019 - market prices are falling for many Income cards and all Popularity and Population cards, as well as a fresh dip in the SIM price.

The user @jrcornel (rank #9 on dcity.io/ranking) has declared war against the lack of announcements. At peg and before taxes, he is earning 1400 hive per day of SIM rewards.

A very few users control the SIM price if we are going to be honest about it. Their decisions whether or not to 're-invest' in more cards or sell their SIM determines the market price over time. They, of course, are balanced out on the other side by card flippers, dip buyers and SIM hodlers of all types. If you are a buyer of SIM for any reason, you are probably quite happy to watch the price drop. If you were still hoping to make your city bigger, these dips are the chance to 'get cheap cards' by buying SIM under 0.005 and sending them to @dcitycards in multiples of 800.

Over printed?

Internal prices for the cards are starting to dip as well. INCOME, especially 1st edition varieties, has been 'overpriced' in our eyes for the last several months. Finally we can see, with second edition INCOME cards leading the way, that even some first edition INCOME cards are dropping below 5 swap.hive (1000 sim) per 10 INCOME.

The market will decide. Even my favorite underpriced cards are getting even cheaper - what's a guy to do? I keep chanting in my head - Buy Low, Sell High.

Since 1st edition cards will eventually be turned off, it might be a good time to buy the dip on cards like POLICE STATION and GYM. But there is also a chance that this is the start of the final dip, and it will never come up for air again. My personal opinion is that I will hang on to and gather a few cards I consider underpriced, but continue to try and take profits where and when I can.

Because the top line returns on cards are so high, it can be most tempting to reinvest when the going is good, and fear-sell as a group when things start to dip. I think in the long run, selling when things are looking good and accumulating when people are frustrated might be the better strategy - at least for one more cycle 😅

None of this is financial advice, just my own observations, and some history.

Freedom and Friendship!
