My experience with Hive Watchers

(Edited)

Definitely check out this @neoxian post, The Stupidity of Hivewatchers.

Who watches the watchers?

Let's try to peel back the layers of this discussion:

Should a group fight certain things that are bad?

Should they get funding from the DAO?

Is HIVEwatchers the right group to do it?

Are they effective? Are they fair? and to circle back, are they necessary?

@guiltyparties is my mom's friend.

This guy has bent over backwards to help a lot of people a lot of times. Legends are told about him (ask @theycallmedan). And whenever I have had a problem with HIVEwatchers, I have gone to him, and he has helped me.

ECO - problems with HIVEwatchers?

Not me, more than one time I have appealed on behalf of friends of mine. Misunderstood hooligans in a decentralized world, creativity being crushed by automatons without souls.

and here is the first problem with HIVEwatchers, especially whoever runs their discord.

HIVE WATCHER STAFF IS THE BIGGEST BAG OF DICKS IN THE WORLD

<<No eco, you see they have to deal with really bad dudes! Sex traffikers and child pornographers, and everyone always lies, then cries; they have to be complete assholes in the discord to everyone, there is no other option!>>

I don't believe it. Or at least, if that's the way it has to be then maybe something like this doesn't have to exist, or is set up in the wrong way.

They were dicks when I appealed for RudyardCatling, they were dicks when I appealed for @chronocrypto .

But, and especially in the case of dear Rudyard, when I talked to guiltyparties, who was always, for me, the man behind the curtain, he just.... fixed it. Which always made me feel like at least there was a kind heart in there behind the thornbush of a discord.

Nothing decentralized about it folks. Nothing decentralized about account recovery either.

False positives are really harmful to our onboarding efforts. REALLY HARMFUL.

Can we get a report of how many sex traffickers and child pornographers they have saved us from?

This is really something to consider: HIVEwatchers has chosen its level of certainty, and errors be damned. They could have chosen a different level of severity and pompousness and tried to produce more educational materials.

Persistent people interested in making money online naturally want to make new accounts to keep trying. Hivewatchers probably can cite big account lists of poor people trying to make money on line, except that they seem to have lost the lists. We are paying a few western people, not to teach new users (no money for that!) but instead to sabotage them, ban them, mark them and chase them to new accounts until they flee the chain for good.

By the way, we have a community for making money online, its called Click Track Profit. But if you make some mistakes before you find it, and especially if your english is not that good, HIVEwatchers thinks you should go fuck yourself.

And this brings us into the modern century with AI, I'll let Mr. Dragon explain:

https://images.hive.blog/0x0/https://i.ibb.co/VJ8pWs4/hivewatchers.webp

We need something new. An emergent system. As proof that it has left the plane of reality, already ineffective and abusive hivewatchers has set as its goal to purge the chain of AI.

Again, not to suggest solutions, propose norms, no - they are a club and they are looking for something to hit over the head. Child pornographers old news, AI is the new plagiarist - we will fight it in all its forms!

Well good luck you luddites. But that sort of 'anti-progress' goal is not something I would invest in, and I think the proposal should not be funded by this community. Consider using this tool to check which proposals you are currently voting.

From one infinite struggle to another

Must be nice to have DAO money.

And Yes AI is the real plagiarism here and not people who have a legitimate thing going , the account might have been created for good and may e got into the wrong hands

What do you think about AI?

I think AI is there to easy our work load but then , we should not hesitate to go through it and check properly before approving. AI is a great help but I guess it's clearly not for Hive

It's brutal sometimes, time to go full Chad Mode and be real. I'm on my way to 1M Neoxian and I'm really done having these fights Hiver vs Hiver. We're like a couple of thousand freelancing web3 soldiers storming a major castle and while running toward the wall, we just randomly start slashing each other -_-

Intresting points you bring up. One sugestion I heard from a friend whos accout that is blocked muted is that there is no warning of infractions. Nor is the clearly defied rule that all have agreed to honor when signing up. Who is the accuser who want content blocked? This should be made known not just behind a curtain most will not see and some don't know exists, rulings that need to be apealed. Discourse is key.
Thanks for bring this topic to light. !PIZZA

I think Hivewatchers are useful. But it needs a big modern overhaul at this point

I have seen many people appealing for their accounts which hivewatcher put in the black list, but thye don't listen to the people and force them to leave this platform, that's sad.

In my case, unfortunately I did not get any help from @guiltyparties. Or may be I should say that he couldn't do anything apparently. I did reach out to him immediately when I received a comment from Hivewatchers trying to explain that it was a misunderstanding but guiltyparties said that I have to reach out to their discord and he has nothing to do with Hivewatchers except for maintaining their servers.

The HW discord was just a one way communication booth. Did not have a proper response. But yeah anyways the case is closed now and dont want to talk much on that.

I would say that we definitely need a system like HW and they do a lot of work trying to protect this ecosystem from abuse and plagiarism. But the system should definitely improve, they cannot use their powers to suppress and humiliate people who don't have powers here. That's definitely not the right way to fight abuse in my humble opinion.

Last 3 days were a nightmare.

Targeting you, one of the most prolific independent devs on Hive, has to be the example case of false positive.

As usual, I have a quite different POV. A few more devs and we can successfully fork out of this madness.

Experience shows me that all repressive organs are in some way Luddites, and there comes a point when something has to change. But is now, when AI is relevant, the right moment? Looking at the reaction of HiveWatchers to some of these posts, I see that nothing has changed for them, they remain Luddites. 😁
There needs to be some new proposal on how to somehow balance this spam pressure on the blockchain. After all, we have over a thousand communities here with their own admins, moderators, and curators who could decide what fits into a community and what doesn't.

I think when people feel themselves the authority, they start abusing the power.

HW and its activities are controversial. In some cases they might be bringing betterment but there are cases where they are pulling people away from the platform.

I think there should be an explanation of what abuse actually is..... but again things are applicable for poor accounts not for the rich ones.

Huuuh! It is a debate. A Tiring one. An impasse
