Hello Everyone,

Welcome to Saturday Savers Club with Susie-Saver!

SPI Giveaway for September NO-BUY Month

This is the last week for the September SPI NO-BUY giveaways and another great challenge starting below! How did you do? Here's @shanibeer's final report for NO-BUY September. She's going to do it again for October, how about you?

So, we asked for comments about how the no-buy month has been for you:

  • what worked and what didn't, how would you change things another time.
  • any new ideas you picked up that you're going to keep doing.
  • any interesting things you learned.

We had some great comments - the no-buy month helped @metzli review her shopping habits and introduce some changes; @bashadow did really well and avoided FOMO-ing any new tokens, making great progress towards existing goals; and @missaj and @justclickindiva reduced takeout and entertainment expenses; @bearmol, @phoenixwren and @ericburgoyne kept focused on their savings goals. All in all, a great month!

We also had some good clues about potential lessons:

  • @riandeuk made the NO-BUY month almost by accident, it seems. This gives us a clue about the power of setting intentions, so that even without apparently thinking about it, somewhere in the background, your brain is working away at your intention.
  • @jfang003 and @shanibeer both had contingencies to manage during the month - those days when, for one reason or another, you're just not up to preparing and cooking (it's going to happen). For @shanibeer, the solution is to have some ready-made meals in the freezer and pantry.
  • @metzli spoke about paying attention to what's going on. Sometimes habits just develop over time, maybe in response to circumstances, and when you stop and look, you decide to do things differently.
  • @bearmol talked in the comments about the importance of having a network of like-minded, supportive people around to help you reach your goals.

Everyone went in the Wheel Of Names and we have two winners - @bearmol and @jfang003 - YAY! Check your wallets winners and thank you to everyone who took part.

Remember to check the comments on last week's post for all the great ideas.

October Side-Gig Month - LBI Giveaway!

Yes, it's here - we love saving money and we like making money even more! Every Saturday for 5 Saturdays, we're going to look at opportunities to earn a little on the side that don't require qualifications and don't require a huge outlay in capital. This week we are going to start with the most obvious one - selling things! Here's a few ideas to get you going:

  • sell things you don't need any more - casual sales can be listed online through facebook, gumtree, craigslist and many more or have a yard or garage sale (I love this one). Many places have a local market and sometimes specialise in retro or second-hand on certain days where you can book an occasional stall.
  • sell things you make - could be celebration cakes, pies, jams and jellies - through word of mouth to neighbours, friends and family or crafted items through craft fairs (or the market stall above) or through platforms like Etsy.
  • if you love selling, offer to sell items on behalf of other people for a small fee to cover your time and costs or specialise in trading in something that interests you - jazz vinyl records, old books, vintage clothing through on and offline channels.

For an opportunity to win LBI in this week's giveaway, tell us in the comments any other ideas you have about selling things - or any important considerations. For example, in England, if you are selling food, you need to register with your local council. We'd also love to hear your experiences if you've done any of these.

EDSM Monthly Sales

Last week, I asked for ideas about growing the Saturday Savers Club and the EDS income token fund. We had lots of great ideas from @justclickindiva (extra SPI heading your way - check your wallet), including regular sales of EDSM miners.

I'm pleased to announce that there will be 20 EDSM on sale at 9 HIVE every second Saturday, starting Saturday 9 October (that's next week), then 13th November and 11th November. Remember you can buy fractions of EDSMs and stake them to start mining as well as whole miners!

Wednesday Wellbeing Club

This is a challenge for anyone who wants to make a lifestyle change (eat well, move more, sleep better) hosted by @shanibeer over in the Natural Medicine community. Anyone is welcome to join 😍.

Now then - this week's winners!

Every week, you have the chance to win EDS tokens for commenting. Last week we had comments from @ericburgoyne @bearmol @justclickindiva @jfang003, @phoenixwren, @missaj, @metzli, @bashadow and @riandeuk.

Okay, everyone who commented last week went into the WheelofNames and we have two winners: @riandeuk and @metzli - check your wallets winners - yay!

- Congratulations!

Thank you for taking part in Saturday Savers Club, everyone!

What's been happening in your world this week? anything exciting or fun? Tell us in the comments - you could win some EDS tokens 😁.

More about EDS tokens

EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.

Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 23%.

618 EDS Miner tokens left (plus sales of 20 EDSM at 9 Hive next week)!

Back to business ...

We're going to be here every Saturday through the year growing a little savings honey pot, if you have plans for saving or getting to a different place this time next year - maybe $5 Hive by the end of the year 🤑?

Whatever it is, stick with Susie Saver through the year and we'll get there. Along the way, we'll share lots of tips and tricks for saving and how to get the knack of making your money work for you and not the other way round.

Let's Get Started

saturday_savers_club.jpg

Image by Andy M. from Pixabay Hey Chicken, nearly time for pot pie! 😁

We're using the 365 Penny A Day Challenge framework for the Saturday Savers Club. We're aiming to save £667 worth of pennies by the end of the year.

Penny a Day Tracker Sheet

Right click on the image, save it to your computer and then print it out.

Okay, let's check in ...

1. Check Progress

Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 2 October, was 19.04p. Next week, we'll be saving 19.53p and by Saturday we'll have saved 397.80p (that's 39,780p just compounding a penny a day)! 😁.

Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.

Here's this week's results - 19.04p buys 30.56 Hive.
970 Hive saved in 40 weeks (870 Hive powered up and the remainder invested in EDS and EDSM)! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 20% on EDSM, 23% on EDS tokens and a little on curating and posting!

@susie-saver powered up this week's savings on 1 October as part of Hive Power Up Day - did you take part? She's also been voting following a curation trail. She's reached her first milestones of 530HP and Minnow status. Her next goal is 1,000HP. She's already at 870HP - what's your prediction for when she will reach 1,000HP? Tell us in the comments!

How much did you save this week? Did you meet your target? Or did you save even more?

Being accountable to another person or a group is a great way to motivate yourself to save (or anything you want to achieve). Of course, you need the right kind of people around you - ones that think what you're trying to do is worth doing ... or at least fun 😁.

Sign up here with us to start your savings journey:

  • just leave a comment below if you want to join the challenge.
  • follow @eddie-earner so you never miss a post (Eddie has lots of ideas about how to make money - he's the earner, I'm the saver - you'll like his posts).

2. The Golden Pig Tip

saturday savers club.jpg

Image by 3D Animation Production Company from Pixabay

Every week, we're going to share a Golden Pig Tip for saving. By the time you've tried them all you'll have £670 saved.

This Week's Golden Pig Tip

We're running the LBI Giveaway for October Side-Gig month which will have Golden Pig tips every week - check that section above. Here we will continue to promote building the EDS income token fund. Here's how you can help:

  • Vote for @eddie-earner posts - all rewards on posts are powered up to grow the EDS fund and increase the Hive income that is given out every week. All H-E token rewards are converted to Hive and powered up - it's the magic of compounding combined with a virtuous circle combined with time! Never miss a post by setting up an autovote with Hive.Vote.
  • Carry a little notice about Saturday Savers Club and EDS in your signature at the bottom of every post (See below for sample text and check the bottom of @shanibeer's posts for an example).
  • Write your own post now and then about the Saturday Savers Club and EDS and why you are involved or talk about it in your monthly Hive Power Up Day post.

SAMPLE NOTICE TEXT
< sup > I save with the Saturday Savers Club on the @eddie-earner account. Enjoy savings tips and the chance to win EDS income tokens. EDS tokens provide guaranteed 12% Hive income every Monday (income currently 23%). EDS tokens and EDS Miners are available through Hive-Engine. < /sup >

Remove gaps in the formatting for the notice to look like this:

Thank you to Saturday Savers Club members who are already doing this - fabulous! Should we be setting a target for how much we want the fund to grow by the end of the year? Have a look at the latest report and let us know in the comments.

And today is always a good day to start saving - you can start on Day 1 or make up the first forty weeks (or join the Autumn Challenge) to catch up with @susie-saver.

That's it for this week. Hope you've enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you next Saturday with progress so far and our next Golden Pig tip.

Hello @shanibeer. Hope you had a good week. So much going on in the Saturday Savers Club. That's exciting that we have projects we can do if we have the time to commit.

First, here's my September NO-BUY MONTH report. In it, I detail how the month went for me.

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@justclickindiva/i-did-it-september-no-buy-month-has-come-to-an-end-how-much-did-i-save-or-saturday-savers-club

Also, I'm going to participate in the OCTOBER NO-BUY MONTH. I'm going to adjust my buy and no-buy list after seeing what I want to change. October is normally my month for getting ready for the holidays, so I'm going to allow for some spending there.

I'll be back later with my Saturday Savers Club report for Week 40, combining my 3rd Quarter Report ending September 30th.

Hello @ericburgoyne. I absolutely swear that I'm not going to miss October's cublife buy-in.

Happy to hear you're saving up also. Are you trying to reach a certain amount in cublife?

Also, I hope the therapy well.

Take care.

Great stuff @ericburgoyne. I'm nearly at my target, too. It's growing quite quickly with the weekly payouts from CL and LBI. After that, I'm staking and delegating to @meowcurator, that seems a good return.
Hope all is going well for you and Sharon.

I am doing well. How are you doing?

I am still saving but I have kind of left the saturday saver's club to a monthly add. It just seems easier that way.

I'm good, thanks.

Congrats to this week's winners!!
I have sold things I no longer needed both on Ebay and Etsy (if it's vintage, I think their rule is 20 years or older, you're allowed to sell it on Etsy that way under the vintage category). I mostly stick to Ebay nowadays as there isn't as big of a market of people looking for vintage items on Etsy (they're more looking for new crafts; I used it way back when to sell homemade body care as well so I just listed both when I had a vintage item). I have also sold a few items through online buy/sell groups, most notably my record collection (because unless the record specifically was rare and collectible, the shipping on those would make them too pricey for people to buy online). But you get a lot of people just taking the piss online; if you allow offers (Ebay automatically turns this on EVERY WEEK and unless you remember to go back and turn it off on every single listing, people can send you an offer less than what you are asking for; I really, really hate that Ebay won't just trust that you meant it the first time when you said "no" to this), generally people will low ball you on everything by a lot. Either making it so cheap it isn't worth your time to pack and ship it or leaving you with no earnings at all (because ebay takes fees, of course), or halving the price of a collectible because they probably want to sell it again for the higher price. Have I mentioned I hate the "offers" feature being turned on automatically? Ebay does this of course because they want sales so they can take fees. But like, I'm not doing this to pay Ebay, I'm doing this to pay rent! Sigh. LOL

Thanks so much. What genre is your antique record collections?

I'm a hoarder, so everywhere there available space in my home, there are items staring at me.

Well it's gone now - but it was a mix of 80s rock and kids records for the most part, as I was a child of the 80s. I call myself "the reformed hoarder," because I used to be but have done a LOT of work both materially and mentally to purge the stuff and the mentality. ;)

It's really hard to have grown up with the make do or do without mentality and not hang on to things. I'm always loathe to get rid of things that may be useful to someone else although sometimes it isn't clear how to get it to them. I started my first home with pretty much everything second-hand.

Yup. Add to this, that I'm a big environmentalist and so I doubly want to get as much use out of things as possible and create less trash. It's a process, but I'm getting there while being as responsible with my things as I can. :)

Ah, I knew it couldn't be that easy!
I have tried Amazon for re-selling things but the monthly fee was pretty substantial, you had to sell a lot to cover that and then make something. Having said that, I know there were bookshops making £10,000 worth of sales a week. so it worked for some people/businesses. I was never into all the listing administration and then all the packing and going to the post office stuff. I think the local listings are good, they seem to work well and cut down on shipping. I'm not very good at it, but other family members are.
The offer thing is irritating! I guess that's part of their business model (I'm trying to think how it helps them to irritate everyone 😁). Mmm, that driving down prices thing, that's annoying, too. Was it you who wrote about the gentrification of thrift shops with people buying up stuff to sell on Depop? It's a big thing/problem here and people on low incomes are getting pushed out.
I do like yard sales, though. They seem more like a community event. I can fix it up so there's shelter while still securing the house, so people can come and browse and chat and have a cup of tea and a cake. I'm stacking stuff for the next one, I need to check a few prices in the budget stores here and fix prices that are cheaper than theirs but still maximise the potential income. I like to have a range - household goods, books, something to eat, a few crafted things and some plant-lets. It satisfies my community/environmental side as much as my purse 😍

0

Yeah I think they're just hoping you are desperate to sell and will accept any offer given, but like - I researched my prices first based on what had already sold and what was being offered elsewhere; and on the cheap things selling it for just enough to cover the fees isn't worth my bother, soooooooooo no. I decline the bad offers.
It wasn't me that wrote about the thrift stores, but I have heard arguments about that; that on the one hand, it might be a poor person making a living by doing that so that's good for them, and also that thrift stores get so much stock much is thrown out so if they have higher turnover then maybe they won't throw out so much. But on the other hand, it genuinely becomes an issue when poor people who just need some clothes that fit them and they can afford can't find anything.

I made it through the no-buy and did not start to accumulate any new tokens. There were none that crossed my eyes so it was pretty easy.

I reached my 10 APE CPU goal, alos my 10 EDSM goal, and I did manage to add a little toward my ArchonM and SPI goals.

Side gig I guess is going to continue suffering through the daily grind of splinterlands quest, even though I really do not enjoy it much at all and it is just click to click to get some SPS to sell to buy some more of my holder tokens.

It has been a tough week, but I think I am ready for winter, and spending maybe a little bit more time on Hive Block Chain.

Hello @bashadow. Great you made it through September No-Buy.

I know what you mean. My daughters called me and asked if wanted to "get in" on this new coin they were looking at. It was so tempting. FOMO was playing on me big time that day. But I resisted and stayed the course.

I'm proud of myself. But I told them to buy enough for all of us, and I'll check in with them this month, lolol. I'm changing my strategy and will include a small amount this for this instance.

Somehow I accumulated a small amount of APE, but haven't looked into it yet.

Next week is a good time to get some more EDSM on discount. I plan to.

Have a good weekend.

I'm still not real sure on how APE really works, but I get APE rewards, and when I got to 1 or close I would make it one and buy a cpu, The next level is a bit tougher, you need 10 APE's to buy a cloud.

I saw that, I hope I can suffer through enough Splinterlands to get enough to get one more EDSM.

Congratulations on reaching your goals and not getting distracted 😍

continue suffering through the daily grind of splinterlands quest

I don't really get games so I don't understand this, but I hope it works out for you.

Hope next week is a better week 🙂

Hello @shanibeer. I'm back with my Saturday Savers Club progress report. A lot happened this past week I wanted to report on:

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@justclickindiva/week-40-entering-october--as-the-season-changes-so-must-strategies-if-needed-or-saturday-savers-club

OCTOBER NO-BUY Month. I want to participate again. This time, I'm changing it up a bit now that I see what I was spending my budget on and where I realized my savings.

EDSM Monthly Buys. WOW So happy to hear you thought it would be a good idea. I gave away a few EDS as gifts. However, I'd like to do that with EDSM also, then explain to the Hive members why I thought it would be good for them to hold these miners. I'll be participating in the discounted purchase next week.

Congratulations to @bearmol and @jfang003 for your advice on the pitfalls and potential lessons in the September, No-Buy Month.

I particularly liked @jfang003 and @shanibeer, who both had contingencies to manage during the month:

  • those days when, for one reason or another, you're just not up to preparing and cooking (it's going to happen). For @shanibeer, the solution is to have some ready-made meals in the freezer and pantry.

I too have contingencies in that I have 1 freezer dedicated to organic frozen dinners, pizzas, and side veggie dishes. Some days when I'm in a cooking mood, I'll cook an entire meal, then label and freeze it. Sometimes, I'll forget and look in the freezer and be surprised. All I have to do is heat up some garlic bread while the dinner defrosts.

Congratulations to @riandeuk and @metzli for your wins in the Wheel of Names.

October Side-Gig Month - LBI Giveaway!. I'm not good at selling per se. However, I'll see what I can come up with.

Here's my footer banner:

SaturdaySaversClub-Footer1.png

Will continue to post in different communities.

Hope everyone had a good week.

I'm amazed at how much you saved during September NO-BUY, that was really impressive! Do you have a plan for the money you saved? I have a list of a few items I will acquire over the next few months (as I am sitting here, I can't remember any, that's how important they are 😂)! Most of it will be going towards my retirement emergency fund.

I still have so much stuff after a no-buy month. Yes, I need to replenish fresh food and a few tinned stores but I still have a lot of food to use. I cleared the garage last weekend and there were so many housekeeping and cleaning products! I've had three properties at different times and sets of household things from each of them that I've never got round to rationalising! Apart from things for laundry I will be very surprised if I have to buy any replacements for a couple of months.

I'll be really interested to see the changes you are making for October: I've set budgets for a few things (like yarn)! And I've a different approach to the freezer, pro-actively stocking it, rather than as a fail-safe when I've leftovers or something has reached its best by date. It's pretty low at the moment, so a good chance to de-frost it.

Yes, I'm looking forward to the EDSM sales - we're looking at your other ideas as well, but that was the easiest one to implement. Thank you for carrying the banner and notice about the Saturday Saver Club and posting in other communities, that's wonderful!

Hello @shanibeer. Thank you so much for stopping by. Yes, I feel good about September and knowing that I saved that much. Sometimes you don't realize how much you are spending until you step back and take stock of it.

My main focus for October and going forward is to still keep the same amount of percentages, but reshuffle the deck and move the entertainment dollars to savings and investments. I can then get to my goal for btc/eth other coins/tokens much quicker.

With my savings for September, I plan to purchase:

  1. EDSM
  2. Token my art
  3. Hive Savings
  4. btc/eth; coins and tokens; and CubLife farming

I appreciate that you felt some of my ideas were worth pursuing. Hopefully they will help.

Take care.

They say, “Teamwork makes the dream work.” Yes! We did it together. In the last week of September I didn’t buy any fast food - 🎉 Now you are talking about side gig October? Lovely - one of my friends recently gave me a kick up the bum for putting off my weekend kitchen and by doing that told me to start small and see how it goes. I will be sharing some of my food from next. Let’s see how it goes 😎. October is going to be great!

Hey @missaj, great result!
Perfect that October side-gig works for you, look forward to hearing about your weekend kitchen. Start small is good advice! I used to go to a street market in London, for eggs, fish and street food, you had to be there early 😎
