What's been happening in your world this week? anything exciting or fun? Tell us in the comments - you could win some EDS tokens 😁.

More about EDS tokens

EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.

Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 23%.

552 EDS Miner tokens left!

Back to business ...

We're going to be here every Saturday through the year growing a little savings honey pot, if you have plans for saving or getting to a different place this time next year - maybe $5 Hive by the end of the year 🤑?

Whatever it is, stick with Susie Saver through the year and we'll get there. Along the way, we'll share lots of tips and tricks for saving and how to get the knack of making your money work for you and not the other way round.

Let's Get Started

saturday_savers_club.jpg

Image by Andy M. from Pixabay Hey Chicken, nearly time for pot pie! 😁

We're using the 365 Penny A Day Challenge framework for the Saturday Savers Club. We're aiming to save £667 worth of pennies by the end of the year.

Penny a Day Tracker Sheet

Right click on the image, save it to your computer and then print it out.

Okay, let's check in ...

1. Check Progress

Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 20 November, was 23.47p. Next week, we'll be saving 23.96p and by Saturday we'll have saved 553.21p (that's 55,321p just compounding a penny a day)! 😁.

Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.

Here's this week's results - 23.47p buys 21.73 Hive.
1092 Hive powered up in 47 weeks and the remainder invested in EDS and EDSM! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 20% on EDSM, 23% on EDS tokens and a little on curating and posting!

How much did you save this week? Did you meet your target? Or did you save even more?

Being accountable to another person or a group is a great way to motivate yourself to save (or anything you want to achieve). Of course, you need the right kind of people around you - ones that think what you're trying to do is worth doing ... or at least fun 😁.

Sign up here with us to start your savings journey:

  • just leave a comment below if you want to join the challenge.
  • follow @eddie-earner so you never miss a post (Eddie has lots of ideas about how to make money - he's the earner, I'm the saver - you'll like his posts).
  • share this post if you think your followers might be interested.

2. The Golden Pig Tip

saturday savers club.jpg

Every week, we're going to share a Golden Pig Tip for saving. By the time you've tried them all you'll have £670 saved.

This Week's Golden Pig Tip

For the end of the year, we will continue to promote the EDS income token fund. Here's how you can help:

  • Vote for @eddie-earner posts - all Hive, HBD and H-E token rewards on posts are powered up to grow the EDS fund and increase the Hive income that is given out every week - it's the magic of compounding combined with a virtuous circle combined with time! Never miss a post by setting up an autovote with Hive.Vote.
  • Carry a little notice about Saturday Savers Club and EDS in your signature at the bottom of every post (See below for sample text and check the bottom of @shanibeer's posts for an example).
  • Write your own post now and then about the Saturday Savers Club and EDS and why you are involved or talk about it in your monthly Hive Power Up Day post.

SAMPLE NOTICE TEXT
< sup > I save with the Saturday Savers Club on the @eddie-earner account. Enjoy savings tips and the chance to win EDS income tokens. EDS tokens provide guaranteed 12% Hive income every Monday (income currently 23%). EDS tokens and EDS Miners are available through Hive-Engine. < /sup >

Remove gaps in the formatting for the notice to look like this:

Thank you to Saturday Savers Club members who are already doing this - fabulous!

Hi @susie-saver @shanibeer
This week I'm at 816HP on my way to 1000HP by year end. I may have come to the club a bit late last week. Thanks for the EDS and congrats to the other LBI and EDS beneficiaries.

Have a great week everyone.

Oops Black Friday Cyber Monday Sales
I don't recall ever buying anything during these sales. They have absolutely no impact on my purchasing choices. I tend to make special purchases based on necessity, birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day, Christmas, back to school, vacations etc.

Tips for the Festive Season possibly my favorite time of the year.

  1. Plan: Make a list (you can check it twice too) 😊
  2. Don't take on more than you can afford.
  3. Avoid waste: Enjoy the leftovers (for days)

Hello @bearmol, good to see you 😍
I'm a little busy offline until 9 December so I get here when I can during the week (I didn't manage it at all during this past week). Congratulations on passing the 800HP mark, that must feel fantastic, you're doing so well 🙂.
I'm like you, Black Friday doesn't have any impact on my purchasing, in fact, I try to avoid it: all that stress! I'm finding there are quite a lot of good deals around now anyway for the things I want to buy, without having to psych myself up for Black Friday. A weekend or two ago, I was doing planned shopping - there was a 10% discount throughout the store and then another 15% on the particular items I was buying: 25% in total. I was happy with that on purchases I was going to make anyway!
I like your tips for the Festive Season: Mr P. would say "Don't hang your hat where you can't reach it". Similar advice, I guess 😍.

My savings for this months clublife buy in is on target.

As for best Black Friday sale buy was a dvd player for $1.00 a real fluke as it was

a door crasher as long as supplies last I got there 3 hours later and found one in

another department of the store put in my cart and when I checked out it rang up as

$1.00 my best buy ever.

As for this year I have not bought anything early Black Friday sale as I have not

seen anything on sale that we need.

Have a great week all, and Happy Thanksgiving to one and all

Wow, that was super lucky! I love when that happens, you don't even know you've got a bargain!

Good news about your cublife buy, that is going so well.

I like your restraint, not buying for the sake of buying.

Have a good week 😍

Hey there and thank you for the tag! Sorry I kinda disappeared for a while whilst I was overwhelmed with moving. I have been keeping up with my savings though, and am now up to 125.642 HBD with my 365 savings challenge! Woohoo! :)
My tip for saving on food, drink, and decorations for holiday celebrations is to make as much from scratch as you can, food-wise. I totally get why it's tempting to go for convenience, especially when you are making 10 different things for a party, but often the from-scratch isn't as involved as you'd think. For instance, making a pie crust from scratch is pretty easy and will save you money compared to buying a pre-made one (and generally will taste better, too!).
For decorations, I reuse, reuse, reuse. This is better on your wallet, better for the environment, and after so many years your collection becomes infused with memories. I have some Yule decorations my now-passed grandmother made, for instance, that are very special to me, and a Santa doll that my parents had since before I was born and as a little kid I'd claim him and bring him into bed with me at night. When I was in my 20s, my mom officially gave him to me and now he is part of my decorations. :)
I would also say that you can find some decorations in nature, depending on where you live, that you can harvest ethically if you're careful. Even in the city, I do this for at least one of my decorations: I have a reindeer made out of wood pieces that I bought from a xmas tree lot one year, that they make out of trimmed branches and stumps from the trees they sell. He has antlers and a tail made out of sticks with the needles still attached, which as you can imagine, dry out over a year so they're brown by the next Yule season. So when I'm walking past a xmas tree lot, I simply keep my eyes on the sidewalk for inevitable fallen, broken off branches that I can use for new antlers and a tail. I'm not cutting anything from live trees. I'm using what otherwise would be washed down the gutter or caught up in street sweeping. I'm not spending any money. Why not? :)

Dancer.jpg

Re: Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales, I actually did take advantage of an early sale! LOL. The Blueland cleaner that I use, which is a money saving and eco option where they send you tablets that you dissolve in warm water in your reuseable spray bottle rather than buy new plastic bottles of cleaner all the time, emailed me with a 20% off code. I already had them on my shopping note as I had just made a bottle with the last tablet I had. So, a packet of 12 tablets which was normally $19, minus 20% covered the shipping + tax and a few cents extra off (I paid 18something total). That's just over $1.50 per bottle of cleaner. Not bad, eh?

This is a great idea, I may call into one of the garden centres/home/diy stores and pick up a few trimmings that would only be going in the chipper. Honestly, I'm doing them a favour, they should be paying me 😂. I see a lot of twigs and branches on my walks (and in the garden), I can feel a sculpture coming on, or at least a natural structure I can hang my decorations from.

I'm with you about keeping re-using decorations and them gaining memories as you keep them. Reading your story about the Santa doll, I'm thinking I could make Christmas-sy outfits for my three childhood toys. One of them is pretty old - probably about eighty now, I think I worked out (it belonged to a cousin of my dad). I love the reindeer 😍.

Glad to see you, I know you've been busy, moving is a big handful and then the recovery time needed.

Sounds like a good deal on the cleaner, too!

I don't really recall buying anything important during Black Friday but I guess maybe a labtop every now and then during Cyber Monday. However I don't remember how much it costs.

Thanks for the EDS and LBI.

I did sell some tokens this week not for black Friday or cyber Monday, but just so I had a little liquidity on H-E in case something holiday-ish came available on hive, like Marky's HivePunks.

Worst cyber/on-line buy? Last years laptops for Christmas, they were late they were crap, end of story. Not going there this year, but I have a new spatula lined up and something else in my Amazon cart just waiting for the button to be pushed, after adding a few other things I might need or want.

I have a new spatula lined up

This made me smile, I like the cover-all-angles nature of it 🙂.
It's a good move to have some liquids funds in case an opportunity comes your way, I like that.

Thank you for sharing your Black Friday experiences, I've had one or two like that, although not Black Friday buys ... just ordinary everyday buys 😂

Good to see you!

Hello everyone. Here's how I tackle Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

First, I already have my list ready of the items I want to buy. When the Friday arrives, I just add the items to the online cart and check out. I rarely go into stores because of the crowds. And with the pandemic, I'm even more cautious.

Today is Black Friday. I placed my order for several items. I saved for the items all year.

Several online stores actually start Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving evening at 6pm. I missed the first year, so I now know to do this early. If you place items in your cart before then, the system will remove the items.

First, I already have my list ready of the items I want to buy.

Great idea and a recurring tip for Saturday Savers ... have a list ... use it 😁.

I don't think I've ever managed to buy anything on Black Friday, maybe I should send them my list in advance? 😂

Hope you were able to get everything you wanted 😍.

Hello. When I say list, I had to create one because the online retailers emptied my carts. So I just printed out my cart so I'd know the item numbers and not have to search for them again. But the key was that Black Friday didn't start on Friday. I was shocked to learn that while I was eating and entertaining on Thursday Thanksgiving, at 6pm online vendors opened up the Black Friday sales. I missed out that year, but I wasn't caught off guard again.

Now in the past few years, Black Friday sales start immediately after Halloween in Oct. I purchased some items already. Then I gathered some more funds, and finished.

tell us your favourite tips for buying during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales

Not buying anything is my best tip, so many fake sales by prices being increased earlier on..

Although if you already needed something and are aware of the value and the regular pricing you could score a good deal. Whenever I needed tech and it was somewhat doable to wait till these moments I just figure out which model I wanted and kept track to see if the blackfriday/cyber monday prices were actual good deals.

Luckily didn't need anything this year so bought some more crypto instead :-)

Hello @riandeuk good to see you.
Great idea there - avoid Black Friday 😂.
I checked my list of things-to-buy and none were on offer!
Love how your crypto is growing 😍
