A veces es difícil lidiar con diferentes personalidades y actitudes. Pensando en mi labor como docente, es complicado mantener el equilibrio para no volverse loco.
He aprendido lo importante que es usar la empatía a la hora de hablar con los jóvenes. Debido a que están en su etapa de crecimiento, algunos son rebeldes, no prestan atención e incluso tienen ciertas actitudes.
A pesar de las molestias y el enfado que pueda sentir en ese momento, trato de tranquilizarme y hablar con ellos. Si no es el momento, espero.
La educación, el sistema educativo actual, es complejo. Siento que no se enfoca en el aprendizaje ni en las necesidades de los jóvenes, sino en las estadísticas.
También hay que resaltar el problema socioeconómico y familiar. Muchos de los jóvenes a los que les doy clase tienen a sus padres fuera del país, y viven con los tíos o los abuelos.
A eso hay que agregarle el mismo desánimo de los docentes, quienes no cuentan con el sueldo necesario para vivir ni con las herramientas indispensables para dar clase.
Sé que por allí saldrá un romántico que dirá que la vocación es lo más importante, y es verdad, pero cuando no tienes una buena remuneración económica, cuando no cuentas con las instalaciones adecuadas, y además, como es mi caso, tienes que trasladarte a largas distancias, todo se complica. Y si a eso le agregamos la actitud de los muchachos, la cosa se pone más difícil.
Hace poco estuve leyendo (no lo he terminado de leer) un libro que se llama Padres brillantes, maestros fascinantes, de Augusto Cury. Una de las cosas que propone este autor es educar a través de la inteligencia emocional, hacer que los muchachos expresen sus emociones y ayudarlos a reflexionar, a ir más allá de lo que están aprendiendo.
Por otro lado, hay que dejar la apatía, y no ver a los alumnos como holgazanes ni perezosos, sino motivarlos y ayudarles a ver que pueden hacer lo que se les dice.
Una de las cosas que hice esta semana fue ponerlos a leer. Al principio se rehusaron, entonces les dije que la lectura tenía un porcentaje en la nota, y accedieron. Por lo menos logré que leyeran. La otra actividad fue más dinámica, buscaron palabras que no conocían en el diccionario. El resultado fue que se concentraron tanto que se les pasó el tiempo volando. Trabajaron en grupo, se ayudaron y algunos prestaron su diccionario a quienes no tenían.
Al final, les pregunté qué les pareció la actividad, y dijeron que les gustó mucho, que la querían repetir.
Antes o después de clase les leo un poema. Al principio les pareció raro, se reían. Pero ahora prestan atención. De hecho, algunos preguntan si no les voy a leer el poema del día.
Asumir el reto de educar no es fácil cuando todo el sistema se sostiene de un hilo, pero se puede marcar la diferencia. Eso sí, hay que tener muuuuuucha paciencia para tratar a adolescentes con múltiples antecedentes.
¿Que si me gusta dar clase? Sí. Es todo un desafío, pero me llena compartir lo que sé, y aunque ellos no lo aprecien, sé que en el momento menos esperado se acordarán de alguna cosa que les dije.
Este es mi nuevo reto, es mi camino. Seguirlo es toda una aventura porque todavía hay muchas cosas que no sé, pero en eso consiste vivir, ¿no? Cada día es una sorpresa diferente.

One of the things this author proposes is to educate through emotional intelligence, to make children express their emotions and help them to reflect, to go beyond what they are learning.
On the other hand, it is necessary to leave apathy behind, and not to see students as lazy or lazy, but to motivate them and help them see that they can do what they are told.
One of the things I did this week was to have them read. At first they refused, so I told them that reading had a percentage on the grade, and they agreed. At least I got them to read. The other activity was more dynamic, they looked up words they didn't know in the dictionary. The result was that they concentrated so hard that the time flew by. They worked in groups, helped each other and some of them lent their dictionaries to those who didn't have one.
At the end, I asked them what they thought of the activity, and they said they really liked it and wanted to do it again.
Before or after class I read them a poem. At first they thought it was strange, they laughed. But now they pay attention. In fact, some ask if I'm not going to read them the poem of the day.
Taking on the challenge of educating is not easy when the whole system is hanging on by a thread, but you can make a difference. Of course, it takes a lot of patience to deal with teenagers with multiple backgrounds.
Do I like teaching? Yes. It's a challenge, but I love sharing what I know, and even if they don't appreciate it, I know that at the least expected moment they will remember something I told them.
