THE EMERALD CITY OF UYO, MY HOME LAND AND MY FAVOURITE CITY
My favorite place in Nigeria happens to be uyo, mine own state capital, akwa ibom state, I have been steadily in uyo for the past 15 years and i can tell you, vividly that there is no place like in my personal opinion. Uyo is a place to be, uyo is peaceful, uyo is welcoming and hospitable for all, uyo is a home for both visitors and indigenes, i have been to other towns and city in Nigeria but i have not found yet such unique potentials available in uyo, I can proudly say that uyo is a home for all, we also have some basic infrastructural facilities that makes life good, sweet and homely, places were you can cool off stress when there is need, guys, please feel free to come around for your family vacation, there is enough joy to share across board.
The emerald city of Uyo is one of the beautiful city within the south-south and the south-eastern Nigeria, Uyo is the capital of Akwa Ibom State, as well known as the major oil producing state of Nigeria. Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state is located in the south-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria, Ibibo is the language dominently spoken by the uyo indigenes.
The city of uyo, became the capital of akwa ibom, far back September 23, 1987 when Akwa Ibom became a state and was created from the former Cross River State. the population of Uyo is about 427,873, and the greater urban area, including Uruan, has a population of about 554,906.
Uyo as a set of the Ibibio extract, is blessed with assorted delegacies that will interest you, maybe you have heard about it before or perhaps, read about them but here in uyo, you can always have it in full doze.

The city of Uyo is one of the beautiful city and in fact a fast growing City with massive infrastructural growth that is recorded in the last nine years. Uyo is blessed with an intensive network of good dual carriage roads such as the one at the Edet Akpan Avenue, and currently it is known as the widest road in the Uyo metropolis.
The road is an eight lane, Highway bordered with carpet grasses, flowers, trees, Traffic Lights and even Street Lights.
The city of Uyo is also a boast of public recreational areas such as the one by the plaza, called the Ibom Connection.
The prestigious Le Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort which is still under construction and when completed will be the largest hotel in the west African region. The Uyo city has other recreational centers such as the Ibom Tropicana Resort centers which have boosted the tourism potential of the state. It has become the first of its kind in West Africa.

Godswill Akpabio International Stadium
The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium which was formerly known and called Akwa Ibom International Stadium, is an all-seater national sports stadium, it is situated in the emerald city of uyo, The stadium over the years have serves as a home to the Nigerian Super Eagles, AKWA united and the dakada team and also have been used as a center for many social, cultural, and religious events. The International Stadium complex was completed by Julius Berger in 2014, the facility is a 30,000 seater ultra modern multipurpose sports complex, this is were any lover of sports will love to be, in case you are one, here is the best place to be.
Ibom Plaza
Ibom Plaza, as a matter of fact is one of the oldest, if am not mistaken, most sophisticated and patronised recreational centres in the emerald city of Uyo which happens to be the akwa Ibom state capital.
the Ibom plaza is a tourist paradise, it is situated in center of the emerald and culturally rich city of Uyo, Ibom Plaza has a sitting arena modeled with the gothic Greco-Roman arena and also with a giant elevated screen for football and sports, beamed through satellite, a place for relaxation and recreation.
The plaza off cause is a beautiful art-piece beautified with sparkling walkways, it has overhead bridges with park seats, landscape displaying an amazing and uniquely beautiful flowers that gives it an outstanding outlook. this place also is used for important State and private functions many others. many people calls it a magic center, you can do virtually all kinds of shopping within the Uyo plaza, its a place you will love to be.
Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre
This is one of the happening place in uyo, which i do believe you should see for yourself at any of your visit to the emerald city of uyo
At anytime you find yourselves around the city of uyo, Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre, is one of the best place to be, its a modern leisure and business resort, situated in the emerald city of uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state, its comprise of a six-screen Cineplex, wet and dry park, a five-star hotel, a conference center, and also with a large shopping mall.

The building has a tower as high as 108.8 meters, the 21 storey building is a Five Star business accommodation that occupies a construction area of 18, 639.50 meters square on a massive site area of 48,200.00 meters square, in the facility provisions are made for 500 capacity car park.
This was due to the burning desire of the state to attract huge or high volumes of Foreign Direct Investments, FDI, to uyo and by extension to the state thereby building the state into an investment hub for our nation, Nigeria.

This said project is under construction and you can imagin how the glory will be like when the building is fully constructed and commissioned. i tell you uyo is already a place to be and will always be a home for all, this gigantic project is as a result of the fact that the state is named after God and the seating Government have deemed it fit for the state that is named after God to host God in a location.
