Hello friends of Hive nature lovers, today I want to share with you a curious encounter that I recently had in my home with a quite striking and strange insect which I was lucky enough to find for the first time, and I say lucky because is this type of fortuitous encounters those that arouse our curiosity and push us to investigate and discover something new, increasing our knowledge about the amazing nature that surrounds us and to which we belong.

The midday hours were passing when as I entered my kitchen I almost came face to face with this insect friend that was clinging to the wall next to the door frame at my eyes level, that perceived it as a strange form very close to me, to my surprise was this beautiful and huge insect with these green and white colors and huge antennae that perched motionless very calm just centimeters away from me, my first reaction was shock and then great curiosity and I proceeded to make a thorough inspection of this fellow friend and take several photos.

It was too big to remove it without disturbing it or making it nervous, scared, so I preferred to leave it there and let it find its own way out of the house, that afternoon I left the house to return late at night, on my return later after a while I realized that it was still in the very same spot where I had left it earlier in the day, I was quite surprised that this little fella had rigged it so much there, why hadn't it moved in such a long time, so I decided to concentrate in devising a way to help this little giant get back out into his environment.

After thinking about it, I took a transparent container big enough to fit its entire length without hurting its long antennae, and put the container on it, thus isolating it and once isolated and safe, I carefully inserted a sheet of paper under the container so that it would sit on the paper and thus be able to transport it outside the house, it was very curious that at this point it emitted a kind of very soft squeak as in protest, it had a fairly large and elongated head, it is likely that it had this ability to make sounds as if speaking heh heh heh.

Once outside I simply removed the container leaving my little friend at ease free to take any direction he liked, as expected he did not move at all, it is clear to me at this point that they do not move much... After a couple more hours when I went back to check, it had already gone to his fate and left me with this curious anecdote that I share with you today.

Now, after a while of researching about it, I was able to find according to some consulted portals, it is a longhorn beetle with the scientific name of Neoptychodes trilineatus belonging to the Lamiinae subfamily, they can grow up to 35 millimeters or 1.38 inches, Although with their unfolded antennae their length is more than double, they are xylophagous, that is, they feed on wood and lay their eggs on it so that the larvae can feed on it during their growth, these larvae are usually a large snack for woodpeckers.

They are excellent when it comes to flying, and they also feed on the pollen of flowers, at night they are attracted by the light from the light bulbs in our homes, and to my surprise the squeak was true, this type of insects emit a squeak as a defensive reaction, which they produce with the movement of their chest when rubbing against their abdomen and this was what I could hear, without knowing at the time what it was or how it had done it, and so today I learned something new.

I hope that with this information you have learned a little more about our amazing nature, and that before harming these insects because we consider them a threat or something similar, we consider more just returning them to their natural environment so that they can continue their course naturally if we happen to find them at home.

I hope you liked it, thank you very much for your attention.
