Antonio Story - Part II

Depression is capable of pushing anyone to the limit, even those we believe to be strong, and this is how the sadness that overwhelmed Don Antonio's life pushed him to the limit, to the point of having him in intensive care.

He stopped eating, stopped drinking water, let the days go by and nothing motivated him to fight and continue living. They tried to take him to his birthplace, to see his loved ones, but nothing seemed to cheer him up.

La depresión es capaz de llevar al límite a cualquiera e incluso a quienes creemos que son fuertes, así llevó a Don Antonio la tristeza que agobia su vida, al límite de tenerlo en terapia intensiva.

Fue dejando de comer, de tomar agua, fue dejando que los días pasarán y nada lo motiva a luchar y seguir viviendo. Buscaron llevarlo a su lugar de nacimiento, a ver a los suyos, pero nada parecía animarlo.

Antonio seemed to have given up, causing great distress to his loved ones. His family kept trying to do everything they could for him, looking for doctors and ways to cheer him up, spending whole nights without sleep, looking after his care, until Antonio could take no more.

One Monday morning, after having been examined by several doctors and some tests, they decided to admit Antonio to the hospital under intensive care, the results were not at all encouraging and they had to act quickly.

Worry, anguish and a lot of sadness were going through Antonio's family and many questions were going through their minds, especially why Antonio had come to this point, giving himself up.

Antonio parecía haberse dado por vencido, causando gran angustia en sus seres queridos. Su familia no dejaba de dar el todo por él, de buscar médicos y la manera de animarle, pasaban noches enteras sin dormir bien, al pendiente de sus cuidados, hasta que Antonio no pudo más.

Un lunes por la mañana, luego de haber sido revisado por varios médicos y practicado algunos exámenes, decieron internar a Antonio en el hospital bajo el cuidado de terapia intensiva, los resultados no eran nada alentadores y debían actuar de prisa.

Preocupación, angustia y mucha tristeza embargaba a toda la familia de Antonio y muchas preguntas pasaban por la mente de ellos, en especial, el porqué Antonio llegó a ese punto, dándose a sí mismo por vencido.

One of his sons, who was abroad, tried to find a way to meet him soon and sent word to tell his father that he would soon be coming to see him. Miraculously this was the only thing that cheered up Don Antonio, who spent a better night in the hospital while waiting for his son.

At dawn, the surprised doctors took Antonio off oxygen, as he could breathe very well on his own and although they had to perform some interventions, his condition was more stable, which was truly a miracle, as he was someone who was very weak.

The time came for Antonio's son to see him and it was a long awaited meeting, although there were a few unforeseen events, they were able to see each other and talk for a while, it was an anematic conversation despite the adverse circumstances and the sadness that could have been in Antonio's son's heart to see him in a hospital and in such a condition.

Antonio had not only seen many people worried about him and always ready to give him encouragement, he saw his children capable of doing anything for him, he saw his wife crying and praying to heaven for him, which made him wake up from his depression and start to fight without stopping.

Uno de sus hijos que se encontraba en el extranjero, buscó la forma de llegar pronto a su encuentro y envío a avisar, a que le dijeran a su padre que pronto iría a verlo. Milagrosamente esto fue lo único que llenó de ánimo a Don Antonio, el cual pasó mejor noche en el hospital mientras esperaba a su hijo.

Al amanecer los médicos sorprendidos, le quitaron el oxígeno a Antonio, pues podía respirar muy bien por sí solo y aunque tuvieron que realizar algunas intervenciones, su estado era más estable, lo cual era verdaderamente un milagro, ya que se trataba de alguien que se encontraba muy débil.

Llegó la hora de que el hijo de Antonio lo viera y fue un encuentro muy esperado, aunque hubieron unos imprevistos, pudieron verse y hablar un rato, siendo una plática anema a pesar de las circunstancias adversas y la tristeza que podía haber en el corazón del hijo de Antonio al verlo en un hospital y en esas condiciones.

Antonio no solo había visto a mucha gente preocupada por él y dispuesta siempre a darle ánimos, vio a sus hijos capaces de hacer cualquier cosa por él, vio a su esposa llorar y rogar por él al cielo, lo cual lo hizo despertad de su depresión y comenzar a luchar sin detenerse.

Don Antonio is still fighting for his life in the intensive care ward of a hospital. They are waiting for blood donors but more than that for a miracle, he has told his son José that he is fighting, he is fighting to live, for love of them.

Don Antonio's family does not know what will happen in the future, but they are reassured that their father has been improving and as long as he does not stop fighting, there will always be hope.

We should not wait like Don Antonio for everything to get worse to start fighting for our lives, but with this story we should also learn that it is never too late to start doing so and that miracles also exist.

Don Antonio, aún lucha por su vida en la sala de terapia intensiva de un hospital. Esperan donantes de sangre pero más que eso un milagro, le ha dicho a su Hijo José, que él está luchando, que está luchando por vivir, por amor a ellos.

La Familia de Don Antonio desconoce lo que pueda pasar en el mañana, sin embargo están más tranquilos ya que su padre ha ido mejorando y mientras el no deje de luchar, siempre habrá una esperanza.

No debemos esperar como Don Antonio que todo empeore para comenzar a luchar por nuestras vidas, pero con esta historia también debemos aprender que nunca es tarde para comenzar a hacerlo y que los milagros también existen.
