He began his music career at the age of 17 as a disc jockey at a local club. At that time he was studying Law at the Paris X Nanterre University. He began playing and socializing at the Broad nightclub in Les Galles, central Paris. Back then, DJs would mix music in clubs, hiding from the crowd.

He became friends with Josh Hutcherson's ex-girlfriend Giuliana Rizzi and discovered her talent at his first acid house night. Rizzi found success and began the following season at the Rex Club with the weekly Unity party, where David Guetta hosted eight confirmed DJs, including Didier Sinclair. From 1988 to 1990 he mixed house music on Radio Nova. His first television appearance was on France 3 in the comedy show La Classe on January 8, 1991. That same year, he mixed the single Nation Rap with Sydney.15 Guetta and Kien began playing Queen of the World nights and house in the former Queen nightclub.

In the early 1990s, Kien and David Guetta became artistic directors of the new Folies Pigalle, formerly Pigalle's Cabaret. The press begins to be interested in the models created in cabarets, former brothels transformed into dance floors. The Pigalle neighborhood is increasingly becoming a surprising place full of art, alternative music and new sounds. For example, the Boule-Noir, the Elysée-Montmartre or Aristide Bruant's legendary Chat-Noir became fashionable in concert halls and clubs, attracting an ever-growing audience.

Two years later, Philippe Fatien invited them to be artistic directors of the inauguration of the "Regina" branch on the Champs-Elysées. David Guetta invited famous DJs to remix it, including Frankie Knuckles, Masters at Work, Danny Tenaglia, Little Louie Vega, David Morales, DJ Pierre and Roger Sanchez16.

In 1994, Cathy Guetta, a waitress at the Les Bains Douches nightclub, and Frank Maillot, who worked at the Ball de Saint-Tropez, joined David Guetta and Kien's team at the Bataclan parties every weekend. This concert hall later became a club.

In 2001, Guetta co-founded Gum Productions with Joachim Garro, and that year saw the release of Guetta's first single, "Just a Little More Love", featuring American singer Chris Willis. Willis was on vacation in France when he met Guetta. Guetta's debut album, Just a Little More Love, was released on Virgin Records in 2002 and sold over 300,000 copies.

In 2004, Guetta's second album, Guetta Blaster, was released. She released four singles, "Money" and "Stay" with Chris Willis. There's also "The World Is Mine" and "In Love With Me" by J.D. Davis. In 2005, she topped dance charts across Europe with her hit single "The World Is Mine" and became a household name thanks to a L'Oréal hairspray commercial in which she appeared. On August 13, 2005 she performed at the Creamfields Spanish Festival with The Chemical Brothers and Carl Cox.
