A Walk around Linacre Reservoir and through the Wood

We had a walk around Linacre Reservoir that actually consists of three reservoirs.

Even though it was sunny, it was slightly chilly this morning, but we soon warmed up after we'd been walking for awhile.

We passed the outlet tower that helps the excess water to go over the dam when the reservoir is full.

We found some interesting fungi in the wood. I'm hoping in the next few weeks we will have a lot more.

I used to enjoy finding oak apples on the trees as a child. They're actually galls that form when the female wasp lays her eggs onto a new oak leaf. The egg hatches and when the larvae grows it then causes the leaf gall to grow along with it. It then creates what we know as an oak apple.

Someone had placed some acorns from the oak trees on the wall. As children, we used to take the caps off and stick the stems in our mouth, pretending we were smoking pipes. Things were a lot simpler when we were kids!

Rose hips ripen around autumn time. They are edible and can be used for medicinal purposes. They always remind me of Christmas.

There was a nice wooden footbridge around part of the reservoir with some lovely views across the water.

The sun cast some nice shadows on the footpath as we returned back to the car. Spot the dog!
