A Walk around the Village of Alstonefield, UK

We walked through a little village called Alstonefield today which is situated on the borders of Derbyshire and Staffordshire, UK.

It was a very peaceful place with some lovely stone houses and cottages with some interesting history.

We passed a cottage that was called the 'The Old Reading Room' from the 1820s. Back then it was mostly used by men for reading and for playing games.

Further down the road, we came across the 'Green Well' which used to provide water for
the villagers.

According to the information board, as the population of the village grew, the well wasn't sufficient enough, so two reservoirs were built in the 19th century to cope with the demand.

The old village pump was still there where the villagers drew the water from the reservoirs.

It was the first time I'd visited Alstonefield. It's a lovely place to have a little mooch about, with plenty of options to have longer walks in the surrounding countryside.

Lovely little place for reminiscing about the past rural atmosphere. Time seemed to have stopped there! Going back to the past!

I could live there but I'd want a retail park not far away. 😀

The Green Well is an interesting feature to keep. Wells are usually covered, wonder if the water is still drinkable.

I wouldn’t like to try it unless I was desperate. 🙂
