Chatsworth House: Home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire

I visited Chatsworth House today that is owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, Derbyshire, UK. Normally, you have to pay to park, but there is a little pull in across the road from a lodge so I didn't have to pay!

It was nice and sunny, as I walked up the path and then diverted up the hill to look at the trees. The estate looks lovely when the trees change to their autumnal colours.

Sweet chestnuts are edible. I love this time of year as I'm quite partial to a roasted chestnut. These were too small though.

I also saw some horse chestnut trees. Unfortunately, the fruit isn’t edible, but you can still play conkers with them! I didn’t stay under the tree for long as they were literally falling on my head!

Chatsworth House was just over the hill. I haven't been inside for many years, as it's expensive. For £29 you can access the house, garden, farmyard, playground and car park. You can get cheaper tickets if you miss a few things out. The house is very popular, especially in December, as it's trimmed up inside with Christmas decorations. According to the Chatsworth House website, this year's theme is 'Deep Midwinter: A Nordic Christmas at Chatsworth'.

On the other side of the estate is St Peter's Church in Edensor, where the sister of John F Kennedy is buried, Kathleen Kennedy Cavendish. JFK actually visited her grave in 1968.

Even if you don't pay to get into the house or gardens, there are still some lovely walks around the estate. You can go further afield if you fancy a longer walk. You can finish your walk at the cafe at the garden centre or the cafe at nearby village of Edensor. There is still a lot to see and do.

I went to Chatsworth House some years ago. It was in the summer, a glorious day and it was a beautiful house. Do you know why JFK's sister is buried there? What was the connection? 🤔

Hi, yes she married William Cavendish, the Marquess of Hartington. Kathleen met him while visiting England. Chatsworth House was the ancestral home of the Cavendish family in the 1500s.

Wow, what amazing pictures! A fantastic and fascinating tale. For the first time, I noticed horse chestnut trees. Beautiful and amazing natural surroundings.

I would definitely love to visit here at some point on my tour of Europe and the UK. I just love that rustic cobblestone look and would just love to get some shots here on a rainy or overcast day (which I understand is prevalent) just to edit them as moody shots or maybe a rustic color grade. Thanks a lot for sharing mate!

Well, you will definitely get the rainy day in England but I prefer Chatsworth with lovely blue sky.
