Fallow Deer on the Chatsworth Estate

As we drove near to the Derbyshire village of Edensor on the Chatsworth Estate owned by the Duke of Devonshire, we spotted a herd of deer on our right hand side.

We parked near the teapot sign advertising the local cafe and walked down to the deer.

In the park, there are red deer, fallow deer along with sheep and cattle, so drivers get used to stopping to let them cross the road. These are fallow deer, which are a medium sized deer, with a spotted coat.

Slowly, we got a little closer to take a few photos. We decided not to cross over the road for fear of making the deer run across the road.

One of the deer did decide to make a bolt for it running towards the road. Thankfully, it saw a few cars and decided against it.

After a while, we left them to it. I suspect they were waiting for us to go so that they could join the other deer on the other side of the road. I never tire of seeing them, especially close up.
