Feathered Friends: Show Me A Photo #SMaP Round 153

This is my entry to the Show Me A Photo #SMaP Contest - Theme: Black and White, Round 153.

We have a pair of swans on our village lido. Sadly, only one cygnet in the brood has survived. The time had come for the cygnet to fly the nest. Unfortunately, it didn't want to go so its parents started to attack it. It was a case of fly away or die! It's quite upsetting to see, especially when its parents have spent nearly a year rearing it only to turn around and attack it. That's nature for you. Anyway, the villagers are very fond of their wildlife, so someone asked the Yorkshire Swan and Wildlife Rescue Team that are based in the next county to come and rescue it. Thankfully, they agreed, and it's now safe with them. They will release it into a safe non-breeding flock close by with other young swans. I popped down to the lido this morning. Calm has been restored. The lido is now clear for this year's cygnets to be born.

I moved on to feed the robin at the other village pond. He's not scared at all.

He could hear my camera shutter making a noise so he'd got one ear cocked!

Lastly, I caught three mallards having a snooze on the side of the water. I think the drake was enjoying the company of the two females.

Thank you to @nelinoeva and the #featheredfriends team for this week's contest.

It seems cruel what the swans parents did, but that is what nature does. It is great the rescue team took it. Your photos are stunning, both the coloured and b&w.

I was impressed by what the parents did to the chick swan. But nature has its reasons even if they seem cruel to us.
Beautiful pictures. The black and white gives a great contrast.
