Rufford Abbey Country Park, Nottinghamshire

Today, we had a walk around Rufford Abbey Country Park in Nottinghamshire. The abbey and it’s grounds are quite interesting, with lots of history.
It is a Cistercian Abbey from around 1170. There have been wings and annexes added to the abbey at a later date from the 17th century. It is now owned by Nottinghamshire County Council. Source

I've been here a few times now. You can just have a wander about or attend the many events throughout the year. The next one will be the 'Get Spooky with Mickey & Minnie at the Halloween Meet & Greet! I love Halloween but I will give that one a miss ...

I think when it gets cooler, some people hang up their walking boots until the warmer weather returns. Autumn is probably my favourite time of year for walking, as the cooler temperature suits me better. I also love the changing colours, with the trees turning red, yellow, and orange.

With the temperature suddenly dropping these last few days, it is definitely feeling more autumnal. It was nice to spot the rose hips, apples, hawthorn berries, acorns, chestnuts, and ink caps around the area.

There was a little ladybird sleeping on the leaves of the oak tree.

We made our way around the lake. It was a nice, easy flat walk of around 20 minutes. Just enough to warm the cockles of your heart!
