Wednesday Walk: Avenue Washland Nature Reserve
I had a walk around the Avenue Washland Nature Reserve for my #wednesdaywalk initiated by @tattoodjay. It was a lovely sunny day but still a nip in the air. I parked up and walked around the sports pitch to start off with.
I could see the crooked spire in the distance which is the church in my home town. There have been many thoughts as to why it is twisted, one being the use of unseasoned wood, a lack of skilled labour, or the fact they used heavy lead sheeting later on in the 17th century. SourceI can remember as a child thinking that every church was twisted!
Going past one of the man-made ponds there was a heron, goosander and a cormorant sat together. I don't see many cormorants in the village but we seem to have a pair visiting us at the moment.
I was a little too far away to get good shots but it was good to see something different.
Walking back through the village I don't think I've seen so much fungi in one spot before. No idea what it was though.
The weeping willow (or whatever its called) always changes to a lovely yellow and brown colour this time of year.
Ten minutes after I got home the heavens opened and we had torrential rain and then the sun came back out. Typical british weather.
Wow Julie, you got some great shots for this publication, especially the first four. You have a good eye and luck to capture these moments, congratulations. Still, the tree with the yellow leaves on the water is my favourite moment, it conveys a lot of nostalgia to me hanging like that. You had a beautiful ride and I thank you for sharing it with the community ❤️
Thank you for your nice feedback. I appreciate it. 🙂🥰
What a beautiful place for a walk, dear friend @ellenripley, places like the ones you show us surrounded by nature are what one has to look for to walk, exercise the body and relax the mind.
Beautiful photographs, thank you very much for sharing with all of us.
Have a beautiful morning
Thank you @jlufer and the same to you.

No problem. Life gets in the way sometimes.
thanks appreciate your understanding
You've got some lovely autumn colours going on there. I totally love that spire. I remember seeing it from the train for the first time and was totally intrigued by it. I had assumed it was specifically designed like that as a feature - but maybe not !

No, definitely a design fault. Although folklore suggests the devil was tired and rested on the spire resulting in it twisting. 😆
Thank you!
