Educational and tourist tour of three museums (Eng/Esp)

English version

Today I am showing you photos from the closing ceremony of my son Efraín's art education project, which consisted of visiting three museums: the Departmental Library, La Ermita Museum, and the Gold Museum of the Bank of the Republic, all located in downtown Cali.

The Departmental Library has several floors and is quite spacious. It has a quiet reading room, a computer room, and an impressive newspaper library where newspapers with relevant information about the city of Cali are stored, especially events related to the boom and violence associated with drug trafficking.

There is also an area exclusively dedicated to works by Colombian authors, including all the works of the illustrious Gabriel García Márquez, one of the greatest storytellers of all time. There is also an observatory, but to access its facilities, you must first make an appointment on the library's website and then go on the specified date.

An art exhibition hall also awaits visitors. On this occasion, the works of a Colombian artist known by the pseudonym Pipe Yanguas were on display. His technique consists of combining photography with dot and line drawings, usually exploring themes that examine human nature, including urban life.

Then we took a taxi to the La Ermita Museum, dedicated to exhibiting the sculpture and crafts of the Calima tribe. There was an exhibition of indigenous crafts, which are interesting when it comes to analyzing ancestral cultures. A large collection of pottery awaited us with vessels made of different materials, which is what stands out most in this museum.

Finally, we visited the Gold Museum of the Bank of the Republic, a building with only two rooms. The first is an exhibition hall where you can see pieces of goldwork from the Calima tribe itself. There were also 615 pre-Hispanic objects made of different materials from the Calima Archaeological Region on display. The other room is used for exhibitions, in this case presenting "Trazos sobre piedra. Pinturas milenarias en la serranía de La Lindosa" (Traces on Stone: Ancient Paintings in the La Lindosa Mountains), a series of photographs of cave paintings related to the landscape, geology, climate, and memory of the first inhabitants of these lands.
