Book review: The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo

For a long time I had been seeing a lot of people talking about this book. Most of this people would tell me this was one of their favorite books ever and they gave the book a 5/5 review.

So I knew I had to read this book since I was convinced I would love it.

It is basically about a famous celebrity called Evelyn Hugo who at 79 decides to open up to talk about her life. She asks Monique, a young women who quite inexperienced to write a book about her the real Evelyn Hugo, a her life story with all her secrets.

One of the big enigmas is why she married seven times. Throughout the book we discover that it’s not always about love when it comes to her marriages.

To be honest I really liked this book and I completely understand why someone could give it a 5/5. However, for me it’s simply a good book, nothing more. Something I really like in books which I found in this novel is when the story alternates between the past and the future and when the narrator changes throughout the story.

I really like when novels have a problem at the start and slowly the excitement is built to discover how the problem evolves and gets solved . What I did find in this novel is that there were many problems throughout the novel, but the problems didn’t carry much significance and were ‘solved’ quite quickly which means that not as much excitement is built.

Overall I believe it is a really good book and therefore I recommend it especially if you’re interested in the 1950s Hollywood. I also want to remind you that most of the readers really enjoy this book so you will probably like it.
