ORGANIZING TUTORIAL CLASSES FOR CHILDREN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD

…… It was fast becoming a thing of concern to me, when i noticed the poor performance of these kids in school, i don’t know how effective the teachers are, what i saw isn’t good at all,

Let me digress a little bit to teachers attitude in public schools, as a civil servant they tend to be less concern about their jobs, There’s a notion that has over time became a phenomenon that in our country government jobs are not taken seriously, its hazardly done, probably because there is no effective supervision, because since it is not an individual business no body really cares,

these civil servant have a totally different understanding of what government really is, they see it as nobody's business their jobs are done at freewill their attitude to work is so freaking annoying, they report to duty very late whenever they seem like it, and closes even before time. All they care about is getting their pay cheque at the end of the month, whether they deliver on the job or not it’s no one’ business and so you see the kids are at the receiving end of their nonchalant attitude to work.

I noticed the following most public schools

  1. No proper supervision,
  2. No control measure set in place
  3. Their pupils welfare is not a concern

So you see most of these kids will go to school return home without taking anything home in terms of knowledge, no impact at all these so call teachers are carefree not minding if a child really understands what is been taught. So you see kids in public schools don’t really get to enjoy the beauty of education, sooner or layer they are done read and cram to pass exams without really understanding the concept and underlying essence of that subject. To talk of the poor state of educational facilities in my country ‼! …its really a long story!

I came across the notebook of one of the kids, and really my heart broke, so i call her and started asking her questions about what she was taught in school, believe me she was just saying the same thing which tells me she did not understand a thing about what was taught So it got me worried and i decided on organizing some tutorials for all the kids in my neighborhood atleast to heighten their understanding of what was taught that day,

So i venture into areas of like…. MATHEMATICS,
ENGLISH LANGUAGE
VERBAL REASONING,
QUANTITATIVES,

basically in these interior village were kids are really use to local dialect for communication, so you get to hear a child of 4years speaking her L2 very well better than L1, but goes to school everyday, but cannot use simple english language for communication, these is quit different from those kids in the urban areas.

I really see the need to do these, even if it is against my very busy schedule as an undergraduate, most times when am really choked up i get one of the senior in the neighborhood to handle the tutorials, and since i started it there has been a really great improvement and am just happy doing it, Most times in the tutorials we get to engage in discussion, and it’s usually very interactive,

you know? there’s this thing most pupil have with their teachers, especially in public schools like ours were that teacher-student relationship is not really there, it’s lacking seriously so you see! If a child is not clear about a thing but would need clarification he or she won’t be able to ask the teacher feeling that she would laugh at, or seen as a dummy because most times the teachers would shout at them comparing them to others in the class, So by engaging these kids in extra moral classes at home gives them that room to air their minds, and for the few moments they really learn alot…..

Actually homeschooling is so much fun i never saw it from these perspective, creating a kind of open relationship and bonding with the kids…and i really implore all parents no matter how busy your schedule is please always find out a time to interact with your kids via their academics, cause most times nobody understands them better than you do.

Gracias💝
