Day 1: JOB HUNTING in Bacolod City

It's been almost a year since I became a degree holder. After all the struggles, sleepless nights, and even passing the board exam, I still felt scared to look for a job. But today, I decided to face that fear. With my High School friend, Kayla, I'm taking the risk to start job hunting in Bacolod City.

This blog is my way of documenting every step- the fears, the failures, and hopefully the wins.

Along the way, I couldn't help but notice the different views and beautiful spots around the city.

I headed out early so we could arrive early and have more time to look around.

I took a bus to Magsaysay, then waited for a jeepney going downtown.

I waited for my friend's arrival, and after that we started walking back and forth through the crowded streets.
We submitted a lot of resumes to different malls- Gaisano, Lopues, and a few others.

We headed to SM Supermarket, and thankfully we were told to come back tomorrow morning for the final interview. I’ll be crashing at my friend’s boarding house tonight to save on fare and energy.

But it didn’t stop there. The hunt continued.

Another Gaisano branch, more resumes dropped. Then, and only then, did we allow ourselves lunch . Sure our feets hurting, but still going.

After lunch, we continued walking — wandering and checking every corner. Under the bright, fiery sun, we were complaining about how hot it was, but we kept walking to reach our next location and finish our goal. We never even thought of giving up. Besides, we still had the energy to keep going.

We passed by a church — if I’m not mistaken, it’s St. Sebastian Cathedral. It was huge, old, but still elegant. Perfect timing because Mass was still ongoing, and we stopped to check if it was a funeral Mass. Thankfully, it wasn’t. So we went inside to pray.

We even tried to look for an outfit at the ukay-ukay, even though we were on a tight budget. Budget: ₱0. Hope: 100. Lol.
In the end, we left without buying anything. We didn’t find what we were looking for, and we were too afraid to spend. So we walked out without looking back. Our next stop will be Ayala Malls. Let’s go.

I was a little familiar with the place, but I'm pretty sure I'd still get lost if I was alone.

We finally arrived at Ayala Malls. This time we just wandered around and skipped submitting resumes. It was time to enjoy the moment after a tiring day of job hunting. We didn’t see any "We’re Hiring" sign anywhere. Maybe that was a sign to stop for the day.

On our way out, we passed by Metro Mall and saw that they were hiring. I asked the guard if we could submit our resumes, and he pointed to the door and explained the process and requirements. Unfortunately, our outfits didn’t match what they were looking for. So we decided to sit on the chairs in the alley near Metro and bought cold water. The nerve of me — buying cold water even after walking all day under the burning sun.

We headed to Kayla’s boarding house and ate pancit canton to forget the heat and our aching feet. What I couldn’t handle was the headache. I wasn’t able to sleep well because of it, and maybe also because I was new to the place.

And that was the end of our Day 1 job hunting. Hope to see you on my next job hunting journey with a twist. Lovelots 😘
