Living Ornaments in Our Backyard : My Babies, My Hobby
Another day, another story to share. Good day, plantitas and plantitos! I’m posting lots of flower pictures today because they’re too beautiful not to share. Who loves planting flowers? Choose your favorite, and if you’re near my place, you can have some.
After the pandemic, everyone was planting flowers because there were so many buyers.. Business was booming. Walk around our community and you’d barely find a house without a garden. Even my mom and I got into it. Not just for beauty, but to sell too. Every day, we watered them, checked on them, and even repotted them in beautiful pots. We treated them like babies. Then Typhoon Odette came. I’ll never forget it. Everything was ruined. Pots overturned, plants scattered, standees crushing the flowers. My heart broke that day.
But years later… they came back. Now they bloom again, beautiful as ever. Like the storm never happened.

I truly believe crotons are very easy to grow. You can propagate them using stem cuttings.
Once, I placed a croton leaf on the soil and monitored it daily. Surprisingly, it developed roots over time. I consider that a lucky accident because I haven’t been able to replicate it. I’ve tried growing crotons from leaves again, but it hasn’t worked.

Ferns are flexible — they’ll grow in soil, and some types will even grow right on tree trunks.
I’ve heard all kinds of stories about ZZ plants and Indian laurels, both good and bad. But at the end of the day, they’re just plants. They don’t bite but the ZZ might make your skin itch if you’re not careful.

I love these ornamental plants. Even without flowers, they’re beautiful in their own way. Just seeing them around makes me feel better. The different colors really help me relax and forget about daily stress.

I also love air plants. They’re adorable and so cute. What’s great is how versatile they are — they can grow in soil or be hung. The only downside with bromeliads is that their leaves hold water, which can attract mosquitoes. You can dump out the water in the "cup" every week and replace it with fresh water.
