There are those who are being led by God but are unaware of it. It is the work of God when a person decides to amend their ways and repent.
Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance.
Philippians 2:13
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
God is at the root of all good deeds. Men's natural desires are for earthly things, so the desire to know God is from God. Naturally, we have no desire to learn God's word.
In the world, there are four types of men and four types of hearts. The man on the side of the road who hears the word but the devil snatches it from his heart, the man with a rocky heart who hears the word but does not allow it to penetrate, the man with a thorny heart full of vices and ambitions who choke up the word in them, and the man with a fertile heart who receives the word with joy and patience and bears fruit.
Matthew 13:5-8 Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil.
6 “But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7 “Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out.
8 “And others fell on the good soil and * yielded a crop, some a ahundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.
Only one of the four hearts is good ground.
There are many evil individuals with evil hearts in the world, but they have hope because God has promised to give them a new heart.
All men's hearts can be changed by God, and God's aim for all men is for them to be saved.
Ezekiel 36:26
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
