Entre la vida y la Muerte. / Between life and death.

Convertirme en médico sin duda alguna, no fue como lo esperé, ha estado lleno de altos y bajos, situaciones agridulces por así decirlo . Llevo 6 meses ejerciendo y ha sido una experiencia de muchísimo aprendizaje, no sólo a nivel profesional, también personal.

Becoming a doctor without a doubt, was not what I expected, it has been full of ups and downs, bittersweet situations so to speak. I have been practicing for 6 months and it has been a very learning experience, not only professionally, but also personally.

Pensé que ser médico solo implicaba saber medicina, pero es más que eso; al convertirte en médico con eso viene la responsabilidad (cualidad que debe ser fundamental en cualquier personal de salud) en tus manos está lo más preciado que puede tener una persona, su vida. Debes aprender a trabajar en equipo, confiar en tu compañero de guardia ( si lo tienes) y enfermeras.

I thought that being a doctor only meant knowing medicine, but it is more than that; When you become a doctor, with that comes responsibility (a quality that should be fundamental in any health personnel) in your hands is the most precious thing a person can have, their life. You must learn to work as a team, trust your partner on duty (if you have one) and nurses.

Ser médico también implica aprender a tener muchísima paciencia, y saber como tratar a las personas de la mejor manera posible, pero sin dejar de demostrar autoridad, seguridad y respeto.

Being a doctor also implies learning to have a lot of patience, and knowing how to treat people in the best possible way, but without failing to show authority, security and respect.

Es increíble, pero me doy cuenta que he presenciado la vida y también la muerte. En casi 6 meses de rural he ayudado a nacer a 9 bebes; he tenido la oportunidad de darles la Bienvenida a esta vida. Tristemente también he estado presente en el final de otras personas, he visto la muerte de cerca; en algunos, he sido la última persona que vieron sus ojos.

It is incredible, but I realize that I have witnessed life and also death. In almost 6 months of rural life I have helped give birth to 9 babies; I have had the opportunity to welcome you to this life. Sadly, I have also been present at the end of other people, I have seen death up close; in some, I have been the last person their eyes saw.

De todas las cosas que he aprendido, creo que la más importante es que ser médico no sólo se trata de curar alguna enfermedad, sino también de acompañar durante la misma, o al final; escuchar y consolar a cada uno de sus pacientes y a sus familiares.

Of all the things I have learned, I think the most important is that being a doctor is not only about curing a disease, but also about accompanying it during it, or at the end; listen and comfort each of his patients and their families.
