Mi Historia como Médico Venezolana. / My Story as a Venezuelan Doctor.

Tengo tres meses de graduada, y un mes y medio ejerciendo oficialmente como Médico. Debo decir que ser estudiante de Medicina y ser Médico es completamente diferente, es un cambio muy drástico, ya que la responsabilidad que tienes bajo tus hombros es bastante, y tienes que aprender a trabajar bajo presión.

I have graduated for three months, and a month and a half officially practicing as a doctor. I must say that being a medical student and being a doctor is completely different, it is a very drastic change, since the responsibility you have under your shoulders is quite a lot, and you have to learn to work under pressure.

Ni hablar del trabajo, es bastante, y todo debes realizarlo tú solo, no hay más ayuda, ya que solo estás con una enfermera de turno que también tiene sus responsabilidades; pero pasa a ser tu mano derecha. Si algo pasa en la guardia, si algo malo le ocurre a un paciente es tu responsabilidad, tú estas a cargo de la guardia, y como ya mencioné antes, es mucha presión.

Not to mention the work, it's enough, and you have to do everything yourself, there is no more help, since you are only with a nurse on duty who also has her responsibilities; but it happens to be your right hand. If something happens in the ward, if something bad happens to a patient, it is your responsibility, you are in charge of the ward, and as I mentioned before, it is a lot of pressure.

All these photos were taken in the last two years, in my different rotations as a medical student. The truth is that in these 5 shifts that I have been a doctor, it is so much work that there are very few photos that I have managed to take. But well, there are 68 guards left throughout this year, and I hope to be able to show you more about my work.

Algunos pacientes tampoco son fáciles, algunas personas son groseras, me ha tocado soportar incluso insultos. No les voy a negar que muchas veces he querido renunciar e irme; pero luego recuerdo porque decidí ser Médico desde que era pequeña, ayudar al necesitado, y sino puedo sanar, al menos acompañarlo. Escucho un " gracias Doctora" muchas veces con lágrimas en los ojos, y todo lo malo pasa a un segundo plano.

Some patients are not easy either, some people are rude, I have even endured insults. I am not going to deny that many times I have wanted to resign and leave; but then I remember why I decided to be a doctor since I was little, to help the needy, and if I can't heal, at least accompany them. I hear a "thank you Doctor" many times with tears in my eyes, and everything bad goes into the background.

Being a doctor was the dream of practically all my life, and now that I finally achieved it, I never thought it would be so difficult, full of many good emotions and sometimes not so good ones. However, here I am, holding firm to the commitment I made, hoping that this year will pass and I will fulfill a new goal, to complete my article 8, better known as the rural one.
