Burn the Bots (1)

AI content is making a strong statement on YouTube, and may be gradually taking over. I fall into the school of thought that such content hurt rather than help YouTube as a platform in the long run. Unfortunately people have figure how to cash out just by creating various AI generated content and channels, so it's going to be really difficult to stop unless YouTube themselves make a massive clampdown on their activities. This is easier said than done though.

It reminds me of a time when the Hive platform was seemingly overrun by bots and spammers. We had lots of people using the platform in theory but very few actively providing value and engaging. I think in the future real life human effort and engagement might be something that is the exception rather than the norm. It also means we risk losing our authentic voices to technology which has undoubtedly helped us, but made many of us lazier and more likely to take shortcuts.

It seems to be that a perfect blend of technology and human effort will likely never occur because we are imperfect as humans. It means there will always be people that seek to take undeserved advantage of a situation. Such people think themselves smart, but the more people that find such advantages the more exposed to consequences of using technology to game the system. It overall makes the pool a lot smaller, and sometimes completely corrupts the entire system beyond redemption.

Yet when we get it right with technology the possibilities are almost endless. Picture what a fully integrated Hive ecosystem will be like and it would be easy to appreciate just how beneficial innovation can be. What matters is having players who play fairly enough to ensure that everyone gets a fair chance to maximize the technology on ground. Technology as with many things is just a tool after all, and is left to us to make of it what we will.
