Please Stop Trying to better My Life

In the Bible a lot of the children of Israel who had been slaves for decades were itching for a return to slavery when they were offered freedom, cause at least there was safety in slavery (read Exodus). This is something many of us don't consider when we celebrate the superiority of our innovation or argument. Are the users truly interested in what's better? I think this take is interesting because it provides an explanation of sorts to why mass adoption may be longer than expected.

Humans have always been skeptical about embracing change. Choosing a more sedentary way of living always meant becoming accustomed to routines and traditions meant for our survival, so it might be evolutionary. In recent times we have been somewhat compelled to embrace the changing times or simply be left behind. This is especially true when it comes to the use of technology as some companies have been able to exponentially increase their value as a result of technological adoption. Others who were skeptical or adamant were simply tossed into extinction or irrelevance.

From those lessons what we have seen in recent times is an intense innovation race. Companies are trying to literally outsmart one another by constantly making improvements on their products or services. This has created not just a production conundrum for most companies (innovate, copy or die) but a consumption problem for many users. We are being flooded daily with different products and services that each company claims is superior to the other and it has left us with questions of what choices to make.

It is so bad that some of the best products and services may not even be heard of or seen. Back then when technologies were truly revolutionary, those who did manage to create truly life changing innovations were certain of mass adoption. For instance, Boeing which was one of the companies to venture into Commercial Aviation still remains one of the largest Aviation Manufacturers in the World today, about 100 years after. Today though you might argue that for the most parts the changes most companies offer are fractional and are thus ignored by the users.

Crypto is Different

You might argue that the Blockchain is one of the most revolutionary technologies in recent time. It has been met with a lot of expected skepticism because change also signifies a shift in power from the old guard. Another truly revolutionary technology developing at a fast pace today is Artificial Intelligence. We are at a point where users will need to adopt and get used to these technologies or watch others move on with them.

In the Blockchain a lot of good projects are competing for attention but I believe the cream always rises to the top. It might be more difficult because of the competition from other projects, competition from mainstream companies, and negative publicity the space has gotten over time. Yet the more we show that our product is truly unique the more confident we can feel about growth.

It's sometimes a bit bewildering to notice the pace and which companies are moving in order to outsmart each other. It reminds me of the time when they called for a halt in AI development because the top leaders didn't know much of the implications of it and feared the worst could happen. Humans are used to gradual change and not rapid change, it will be interesting to see how we adapt to all of it.

Really interesting indeed, and to think this is just the tech side of things. On the socio-cultural front a lot of things are happening too. We'll just keep watching I guess
