Life is tough and only tough people survive the journey. There are many challenges confronting us daily as we live ensuring that we do not become what we want to be or achieve what we desire to achieve. Strength will fail along the way but a tough heart will prevail.

What is proverb?

A proverb is a simple and insightful, saying which could be traditional, that expresses a perceived truth based on common sense or experience. Objects , animals ( living and non living things) are used in proverbs to portray perceived truths. Proverbs are otherwise known as wise sayings or wise quotes and I think the reason is because it is generated from experience most times.

#Proverbs and my life
There is this African proverb that always reminds me of how tough things were for me during my college days and how I scaled through. Unfortunately I do not know the name of the person that quoted it but it's quotes:

"There is no distance that has no end" (African proverbs).

Honestly speaking, no matter how far the journey might look like, no matter how far destiny seem to be, it will one day be reached if we do not give up. I remember back then after my secondary school (high school), I wanted to study medicine but after my JAMB (Joint Admission and Matriculation Board) examination, my point was very low , I scored 192 and the cut off mark for medicine is about 250. Obviously I was not qualified, besides that I also had D7(pass) in mathematics and chemistry in NECO (National Examination Council) . The reason why I used NECO is because my WAEC was held. This made me gave up completely on going to school that very year. I wanted to be a medical doctor, any thing else is zero on my mind.

I have a family friend whom I call Uncle and he regards my mother as his own mother reasons best known to him, he works in the college, he called me one day and began advising me to think of other courses to study apart from medicine and surgery. He was not going to force me but he was only suggesting. Miraculously I succumbed to his idea and I gave it a try and did the needful.

I Got the Admission

When Nasarawa state college of Education's admission list was out , first batch my name wasn't there, second batch my name wasn't there. At this point I began loosing hope, moreover I never wanted to be a teacher and I was willing to wait until the following year to write JAMB .
After almost giving up , about two weeks to test I got a phone call from that my uncle, congratulating me that I got the admission on the third batch. Well I went to the school and checked and the course I applied for was not what I was given, I applied Biology/Chemistry but I was given Biology/Geography. This really hurt me and I was already thinking of forfeiting the admission and waiting until the following year so that I could just rewrite the examinations. But my uncle persisted giving me reasons not to stay at home so I gave in again and I took his advise, infact one of the things he said that motivated me was that, if you go , you can write the examinations while in school and if you pass, you can go for your Medicine, I smiled at this and pushed on .

When I resumed proper, it was already a week to test I was so bothered and scared. I do not like failures at all, I had barely finished registration, attending lectures was something else. It was like hell for me, we were being threatened to finish registration otherwise the portal would be closed. I was so confused but I never gave up everyday seem to be like the worst. God helped me and I finished my registration before the registration portal was closed because a week was added unto us.
Before the test I decided follow my mates and get notes to read, thank God I am a kind of person that prefers reading than listening so that helped me a lot, and the test went well.
I then made up my mind towards success we were much though, there many brilliant students but I decided I was not going to be the tail but among the head, no matter what.

That became an added work for me, I have to study very hard for my examinations inorder to pass well and guess what? God really helped me.
At the beginning of every semester I begin thinking about the end, when will I finished this? my house is very far from school, my parents do not want me to stay in school or even campus reasons best known to them. I have to use motorcycle everyday to come to school and to go back home. Sometimes I use the school bus because it costs less and other times I trek home with my friends .

My lectures terminates most times around 6:00pm after having a stressful day at school, sometimes because of financial issues I have to use my natural machine (legs) to come back home reaching around 7 :00pm. I still have to stay awake in the night to study my books . will this ever come to an end? gosh!

At every level new books and new registration is required, money is needed for all those things the little money am saving to care for my needs I have to use them to get books. My parents are trying atleast they pay school fees and give me money for transportation it won't be nice bothering them about books .

The stress and pressure was much I would sometimes want to quite but when I think of how much I have spent so far I couple myself and keep moving.

Little did I know that time flies like the wind soon a year was gone, the second year also came and I went for teaching practice and it was another trouble on it's own, but it developed me and gave me courage to stand before a crowd and speak boldly.

The end seemed to be too far but, I kept pushing and never gave up on my principles and discipline towards being among the head and not the tail. I keep my standards towards maintaining a good CGPA and staying out of carry overs. The pressure was much my physical energy was drained and I wondered when will all this labour be over? It seem like it was taking forever.

The Ending.

But as time goes on the third year which seemed like an eternal journey came. During the third year, I had to write examinations and to do my project it was not funny. project dealt with me gathering informations all required money, transportation and typing, binding and all those things were not easy.
Done and dusted with college atleast, I couldn't believe it when I wrote my last paper, is this not the end I have been looking forward to see for long? It was like magic before my eyes and now I began to see how small the years was. What if I had quitted? What if I gave up? I wouldn't have achieved this. The journey that seems like it was taking forever has now come to an end.

Lessons.

• I learnt never to be discouraged because of how far and big the future seem to look like, with focus and determination it will be reached.
• Never give up on trying, even if it seems like the obstacles before you are bigger. Move your eyes away from the obstacles and fix them on the glory ahead .
