John's First Party Experience

"Congratulations everyone, It's a thing of joy to successfully finish our third-year examination. As the social director of the Biology Education department, I would love us to celebrate this great milestone by throwing up a party this weekend," Ibrahim addressed the students.

"Our able director," a student in a black shirt shouted from the crowd after the speech and the crowd acclaimed with screams, as they walked out of the hall. You could see the joy on their faces.

"John, you don't seem to be excited about the party do you?" Daniel asked pushing John with his right shoulder as they walked to the bus stop.

Mtchew, John hissed, "Not at all, I am just thinking, I have never been to any party before. Just imagining how everything would look."

Daniel paused for a while, looked at John from head to toe, and burst into laughter, "You don't mean it, do you?" He inquired, Still laughing.

"Come on, don't mock me, it's not just my thing, coupled with the fact that my parents don't approve of that kind of lifestyle," John responded pushing Daniel with his hands because he couldn't bear the shame while they both laughed.

"Sorry about my attitude," Daniel apologized. "I understand with you perfectly well, but this weekend you will have your first experience, and trust me, it's going to be a memorable one," Daniel Added as they boarded a tricycle to their campuses.

John is a reserved guy, his parents disciplined him so much while he was growing up that even when he was an adult, he couldn't do certain things that adults do. He finds it hard to mingle with people or go to social gatherings even while he is in school, far away from his parents.

When he got back home that evening, he was just pondering upon the whole thing, he heard so many bad reports about parties, that his parents always disapproved of.

A part of him wants to explore and another part doesn't want to compromise. He slept off, contemplating the issue without concluding.

Days passed and John even forgot about the party. On Saturday morning, while he was tidying his room, his phone began to ring, he paid no attention to it because he didn't like distraction while working but the caller persisted.

"Ohhh, who's this persistent human being? I wanted to finish cleaning this refrigerator before doing anything else," John murmured. And while he was trying to get up to go and get the phone, his hand pushed a glass container, it fell to the ground and broke.

"Ah! I just hope it's not what I am thinking," John exclaimed. He turned to check what fell and behold, his pickled cucumber was all over the ground on the dirt he just removed from the fridge.

"Grrr," John growls, as he leaves the kitchen to his room to get his phone. It was Daniel, and he already called like ten times. Not up to the space of a minute, his call came in again.

"Hello, my man, why have you not been picking up, I almost came to your apartment thinking something was wrong?" Daniel inquired on the phone.

"Daniel, if not for the love of God, I would have eaten you raw, what's up with the calls?" John replied with a hard tone.

"Why are you sounding this harsh? Anyways I just wanted to remind you of the party tonight, I know you have forgotten, hope you've made up your mind already," Daniel responded.

When John heard "party" his anger subsided, and he said, "Oh! So it's tonight, truly, I have forgotten already. Sorry for the way I responded, I was just pissed off."

"No, it's okay, who doesn't know you? I'll come and pick you up if you are set. what did you prepare for breakfast?" Daniel asked.

"Thank you for understanding, Till then. What breakfast? Something you ruined with your calls, as we speak, my pickled Cucumber is still lying helpless on the floor mixed with dust," John replied.

"Oops, sorry about that man. No wonder you were mad at me when you picked up the call. Man up okay, it's not the end of the world. Man shall not live by bread alone," Daniel made fun of John and they both laughed.

After the call, John tidied the room and prepared noodles to eat instead of bread and pickled Cucumber that he intended initially.

At 9:00 pm Daniel came over, "Hurry up brother, we are late," he continued shouting from the room while John was taking his bath. When John finished they went to the King's Guests Inn, one of the popular hotels in town, where the party was to be held.

When they entered inside, John couldn't believe his eyes, the blue hotel lighting, the carpet grass, and the crowd cheering, made him stand in awe of the place.

"Man, this place is very beautiful," he whispered to Daniel as they walked down to the table where some of their friends were.

"Sit down, look who's here," Peter said as he stood up and hugged John when they arrived. "Please have this drink while we order more," Peter added, handing a bottle of opened Coca-Cola to John.

John looked at the table and saw alcohol everywhere, his friend Daniel was already holding a bottle of Star Radler doing the needful.

"Please, I hope this is clean?" John asked.

Peter chuckled, and said "Will I give you what will harm you? Ride on bro."

Gulp, gulp, gulp, John took some sips and the taste was not that of Coca-Cola, it was bitter and sweet at the same time. Obviously, it was mixed with something.

"You tricked me, man," John turned and said to Peter loudly, hitting his back with his fist playfully.

They all laughed, and he continued drinking, he tasted almost every alcohol on the table out of curiosity and excitement.

After some minutes, he started talking uncontrollably and danced till he fell down and couldn't stand up again.

Daniel came and called his name, "John, John." John raised his head from the floor and still returned it like a hedgehog.

"My friend is pickled," Peter shouted from the table, and they laughed John to scorn. Daniel is already used to the system, so he took him home, after ensuring that all his properties were intact.

John regained consciousness after two days, and he vowed not to ever go for a party again and he blamed Daniel for coercing him to go for the party.

Hmmmm! The drunkenness lasted for a whole two days. It seems he went to heaven and returned.

Did I say heaven? No, it must be the opposite because I heard drunkards are not allowed to enter heaven. Lol😅

Nice story

A first party can definitely be a learning experience! John certainly learned his lesson.

One feedback item for you: In the two paragraphs below, you changed tense between past tense and present tense. Most of the story is written in past tense. It's important to choose one and use it throughout your story.

Keep writing!
