Hello everyone, today I want to share with you my experience visiting a small town in Riobamba-Ecuador, which is called "Guano". The purpose of visiting Guano was because I urgently needed a walk, to find something different that would clear my mind and offer me that tranquility that I needed so much.

Definitely, this town achieved what I was looking for, since I took the first step in the place I felt that I was transported to something magical as if its streets, food and people had a lot of history and legends to tell.

Of the many activities we had planned to do in Guano with my friends, we decided to start with the tour that would take us to the "Lluishi hill". At the beginning it seemed to be exhausting to get to the top, so I took it easy, nothing bad could happen, I was prepared. During the hike there was something that made us restless and that was to know the shapes that the stones had. While climbing the mountain, the thoughts and worries that were in my head were increasingly extinguished as the wind hit us hard in the face. All that was left was to concentrate on where you take a step because in case you slip, you could go straight into town, (luckily that didn't happen).

As we climbed the hill, we could see the town in the distance, almost completely. The heart was racing and it felt as if we were getting closer to heaven and that someone was waiting for us with water and food for having made it. The truth is that something better happened, we found the iconic stones. In them was captured the culture and history that Guano has, behind being just a small town.

While I was taking pictures with the Inca (see pictures above), I felt that he was smiling at me as if he was trying to be flirtatious, so I decided to delete the pictures before I got a scare (boy, am I dramatic, sorry about that). It is believed that the ancestors of this town were people of a very advanced culture. For this reason the people of the town made this type of art, for the great role they had. What did you think of the Inca, to me it seems a little mysterious and at the same time a feeling of not wanting to look at it.

In addition to this very iconic character in Latin America, the fish-shaped stones were what I loved most of the tour, something very unusual to find on a hill. I did not hesitate to climb up and feel the magic that the environment offered, being there was as if I had a very important role in front of others. On the other hand, the explanation for the appearance of fish in the place is because it is believed that in the past the town of Guano was a huge lake.

As they say, everything that goes up must come down. That is exactly what happened to us, the return was much faster than the time we took to go up, of course when we came down we were exhausted, our legs were trembling, a very evident symptom of my lack of physical exercise. However, the fatigue was not going to stop us from taking some pictures and laughing for a while at how weak we are before mother earth.

While we took that necessary break, it was ideal to plan what our next stop would be. Something that could not be missed if someone visits the Guano people. So we agreed to go for some bread called "las cholas de Guano".

image.pngimage.png

As I mentioned from the beginning, what this town has to offer is history. So I could not stay without introducing you to the much desired "cholas de Guano". A bread that is made with corn flour and has a panela filling inside and is distinguished by being baked in a wood-fired oven.

image.pngimage.png

When we arrived at the place, we were attended by a very friendly elderly lady with all the enthusiasm to sell her breads. It was then when I saw the magic of the place, that place that makes you feel as if you were coming home and see your grandparents wanting to pamper you because you come from so far away to visit them. The warmth and kindness is what for me makes a place magical, without a doubt an experience that will remain in your heart. If you made it this far, I am very grateful for your time and company.
