Around the World in Eighty Days

I had the privilege to attend a play at the Hale Center Theatre in Sandy in September. I'm not a fan of thespian events, but I made an exception for my friends that night. We did enjoy a nice meal at a local restaurant before embarking on our destination to watch the play. I felt underdressed that day, but fortunately, it wasn't a semi-formal event.

In case you couldn't tell from the ticket stub, I went and saw Around the World in Eighty Days. I have never read the novel, so I can't tell you how faithful of an adaptation this particular version was. I'm sure the gist of a wealthy Englishman making a bet and finding true love on the way is not too far off the course of the plot. I may consider reading the novel at some point.

What impressed me was not so much the play itself. Granted, I did enjoy the performance. I was more interested in the stage itself. It may look like an ordinary stage, but it's got a deep basement. It could alter itself to create the effect of various terrains. It could also interact with the catwalk. It was a feat of engineering, at least to me. I would have taken more photos, but it would have been a rude gesture to have my phone on during the performance. I didn't feel too bad having people's faces in that shot since they were mostly blurry.

If you like traditional theatrics, the Hale Center Theatre in Sandy is a place for your consideration. As far as I know, they usually have extra tickets for the performances up to the day of. I might do this every quarter with some friends from now on.

The thing that immediately came to mind, those theatre similar with courtroom in Hogwarts. Thanks for sharing your experience...

That's really cool. Theatre 'in-the-round' is so immersive when done well. I have done a little 'thesping' myself in another life, albeit preferring being on stage than in front of it.

Looking forward to the next installment and guessing which classic it may be!

Have a great weekend.

I think not! It was many years ago and retains a special place in time, but we all change and can never go backwards. Nice to reminisce though sometimes so thanks for the prompt :-)

Interesting stage. I'd like to see that in action. I don't attend a lot of theatre as a rule, but I usually enjoy it when I do go to a performance.

Very cool. The stage is something I have never seen before. Would be perfect for some sumo matches.
