From Week 6 to Week 7

Some quick thoughts on college football before I disappear back into fall break. As you may have noticed, last week was a disaster for my teams. Both Penn State and BYU got wrecked. Well, BYU more so than Penn State, but the damage to ranking was real.

Sadness

The moral of the story? Don't get turnovers.

In the case of Penn State, that one interception costed them the game. When two high-caliber teams meet, every mistake counts. I imagine the scenario would have played out different if it was at University Park. Alas, it was not meant to be. The Nittany Lions will now have tough battles for the rest of the season. Between the Michigan schools and Ohio State, it's hard to say if there will be a rematch against the Hawkeyes.

The number of turnovers BYU gave to Boise State was disgusting. Sure, they forced those fumbles, but no team with 4 turnovers deserve to win. I knew the Cougars had too much hype, but expected them to handle the Broncos. They dropped from #10 to #19 and I doubt they will beat Baylor on the road. So, it wouldn't surprise me if BYU falls out of top 25 after the next encounter.

Silver Lining

         It wasn't all bad, though.

Seeing Texas A&M beat Alabama made up some of the disappointment I felt last week. The kick that decided it all, that kid is a hero. I hope Georgia turns out to be the most dominant team in the SEC this year.

While we are on the subject, I am beginning to believe in Kentucky's changing course. I didn't know about it until @patrickulrich pointed it out. It will be interesting to see if Kentucky is a contender in the SEC in the future. I doubt they will beat the Bulldogs this weekend, but it will be good for them either way.

Snapping the bad juju

One of the least underrated games was the Utah vs. USC game.

What made this game special was Utah finally beat USC on the road in LA in over 100 years. It's unfortunate that the Utes aren't doing that great this year. Otherwise, this would have been a highlight.

Anyways, this should snap the mental block Utes have whenever they play the Trojans on the road. Imagine the feelings when history shows your team has always failed in this matchup.

Well, we shall see what this weekend brings. Penn State has a bye week while BYU will face off against Baylor. Not much else interests me...for now.

It was amazing getting to see Kentucky remain undefeated and then minutes later getting to watch Bama fall in College Station despite every attempt by the referees to give it to them with bs calls/no calls.

I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. I think the Cats have the ability to walk out with a win but I wouldn't go placing a money line on it. Georgia is a dang good team but hopefully we show up to win and make it a fun game to watch either way it turns out.

I agree. It’s going to be a good one regardless the outcome.

Any thoughts on Bama / Miss State? MSU coming off a bye and of course Bama is going to be bouncing back. I want to believe we can see it again but I'm not even taking MSU on a spread there myself.

I imagine Saban was furious with that loss and will initiate a beat down on Miss State.

Would be hilarious of Alabama falls apart from here.
