Got Cheese?

avatar

It's funny what you can find on the internet. Today, I came across the "strategic cheese reserve" the US government created over the years. Granted, it is technically under the control of "private" entities. We are talking about 1.5 billion pounds of cheese!

Here is the article I came across:

https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/just-how-big-americas-strategic-cheese-reserve

Okay, so you may not be a fan of ZeroHedge, but there exist other venues that cover this topic.

https://www.deseret.com/2022/2/14/22933326/1-4-billion-pounds-of-cheese-stored-in-a-cave-underneath-springfield-missouri-jimmy-carter-reagan

The Deseret News article cites several other publications that covered this strategic cheese reserve.

The infographic by Visual Capitalists provided the context of how much cheese this reserve represents. It's a staggering amount of cheese.

In short, this reserve is a government subsidy program for the dairy industry back in the 70s. The people of the United States do not consume as many dairy products as they used to. I guess the "Got Milk?' campaign now makes more sense.

A little more digging on this subject took me to the Wikipedia entry about government cheese. The entry gave a brief history and its current application.

I mean, when you have a reserve this large, might as well use it for welfare and seniors.

Although, I found the idea of dumping them as the "cheapest" solution laughable. The events in recent years proved that the government doesn't care about how much money they print and spend when it suits their interests. The cost of distributing excess would never exceed the insanities Uncle Sam is funding across the globe.

Will Joe Biden release the strategic cheese reserve at some point? I don't think he even knows this exists. Or anything, for that matter.

So many stupid consequences of special interest subsidies and corporate collusion. Why? Because the benefits are concentrated, and the costs diffused, so those who benefit are most motivated to be active politically. The system isn't broken, it was designed to work this way.

If he doesn't he'll be all like, "It's nacho cheese! It's my cheese!"

Screw him. He's thinks Corn Pops was a bad dude but those things are delicious!

Wait a minute. I think I figured it out. This whole thing is a conspiracy against cereal.

I hope he would release it but I don't think he will. From what I see, they will only release things if it will help them win and I think it's the normal playbook for those politicians.

Praise Cheesus!!!

I had no idea this existed. I love paying taxes.
Cheese in an addictive substance, right? Cheese triggers spots in the brain similar to other drugs.

Ahh... (https://duckduckgo.com/?q=is+cheese+adddictive%3F&t=brave&ia=web) dopamine is yummy.
"I'll have a quarter pounder with dopamine please."
I ate a dopamine and sausage pizza slice today. When I order, I ask for "medicine".

Flushing it all down the toilet is probably considered cheaper because of all the liability and logistics that would come along the distribution. Cheating new jobs would be bad (JK). I would have accepted a cheese stimulus over the stimulus money.

It’s safe to say whenever they say something is too expensive, it’s just excuses. Those in power aren’t spending responsibly anyhow.

But yes, I would like myself some cheese as well.
