Hobby Collecting: The Ace of Spades

avatar

This is the biggest single unit of silver I have ever acquired. The reason is pure aesthetics. I wish this piece would have been available when the prices were lower a while back. Nonetheless, I am checking off another box on items I want to get.

This is a 10-oz piece fashioned after the ace of spades. The back of the bar displays all four suits of playing cards. The bar's weight is quite noticeable when I picked it up. For that reason, I have decided that is as far as I want to go when it comes to weight.

I took the pictures at an angle because it was very reflective. It was so reflective to the point it was almost impossible to not leave a clear reflection of the phone. I felt the reflection would distract from the bar itself, so I decided to angle my shots.

I do plan on getting the other three pieces to this set in the future. At the current prices, though, they seem pricey. I most likely will not accomplish this goal until the end of the year.

That is, if they are still in stock in the next 90 days.

We live in somewhat uncertain times. I do believe getting into precious metals and crypto would pay off in the long run. This is no financial advice, though. Other than that, more self-reliance the better.

A nice looking bar, I imagine it would be rather hefty both weight and price wise. Just imagine requiring a Gin Rummy player to hold their cards until they put them on the table, there would be few left holding of sets and runs waiting for that last card to drop them all own at once, and more cards on the table.

Can you imagine having a pure silver deck of cards?

That sounds like some insane rich people's gig.

Just think, how would you shuffle them, how long would the patterns hold up, how easy it would be to mark them, but then it all comes back to how hard it would be to shuffle hard or soft metal cards. But it would be cool to play a few hands with them.

We should find out if people have done it.

I've been seriously considering getting some metals myself. I've never put much thought into it in the past.

I always like to see 10oz bars, I personally don't have any yet but I am looking to get some in the future. This bar is very cool as the ace of spades, I like the front and the back. Thanks for sharing.

I'll definitely try to get the other aces.

I am a sucker for pressed 10 oz bars. That one is pretty sweet. I'd love a 520oz deck of cards!

Gonna be a bit pricey to get the other 51 cards and the Joker card too. Lol!

Luckily, I think only 3 other aces exist in this set.

Sounds like a business model. Get a mold of all 52 cards and joker and start pressing 10oz bars. Bet the jokers would sell really well.

It's definitely something someone could do. They could make their own mould.

Ahhh! Someone else already said what I was thinking, but a whole deck of these would be so baller! 😄 Alas silver prices are too stupid for that kind of fun right now. 😭

It's pricey, but not out of realm of possibility.

That is really awesome. Wow! Ten ounces. I can imagine that is quite hefty! I finally got around to taking some pictures of the stuff that my wife and I have sitting around. I am hoping to write a post about them myself soon.
